Obituary

Geraldine Williams Lucas, beloved daughter of the late Hannah Tell, was born in Leesburg, Georgia on January 30, 1926.  She was the second child born into a family of 12 siblings.

During the early years of her life, she attended the public schools of Lee County.

Having professed her belief and faith in the Lord as a youth, she was baptized and received the "right hand of fellowship" into the body of Christ.

She was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, John T. Lucas who preceded her in death.  This union was blessed with four children—Elnora, Earnest, Frank, and Henry.   Geraldine was a loving wife and dedicated mother who devoted her time and energy engaging in varied employment opportunities.  For many years, she was employed as a short order cook at various eateries throughout Albany.  She later accepted employment at Albany State (College) University where she worked untiringly in Custodial Services until her retirement in 1988.  No matter what the task, she always took great pride in her work.

"Mother Lucas" as she was affectionately called by friends and family, was a source of encouragement and joy to everyone she met.  She was an exceptional mother who showed unbiased and unconditional love for her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.  Her home was a revolving door for family and friends, and they all loved her dearly.   One of the joys of her life was cooking and her table was always spread not only to family, but to anyone in need.  She was known throughout the community for her culinary skills—especially baking cakes.  In her free time, she could often be found enjoying the outdoors and fishing.

On Thursday, September 7, 2017, Mother Lucas' earthly life ended and she entered into eternal rest.  In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, she was  preceded in death by her son, Henry L. Lucas; and ten siblings.

She leaves a lifetime of love and memories to be cherished by her children, Elnora (Joe) James, Earnest (Alice) Robinson, and Frank (Jeannette) Lucas; one brother, Arthur James Hooks of Macon, GA; her daughter-in-law, Pearlene Lucas; fifteen grandchildren; innumerable great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
