Gilbert Vincense Crowell, son of the late Lester Crowell and Liz Walker King, was born in Albany, Georgia on July 25, 1958.

He received his primary and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System.  Throughout  his school years, Gilbert was a strong-willed, energetic student who was always ready for adventure.

Shortly after high school, Gilbert began his life-long career with the Albany Housing Authority.  He was a loyal, dedicated employee who approached every challenge with equal measures of enthusiasm and serious focus, took pride in his work, and gave his best no    matter what the task.

Although he was often referred to by his given name, Gilbert, family and childhood friends endearingly called him Gil—a name that    followed him throughout his adult life.   He was a good guy who had a big heart for all things and found joy in every circumstance.  His sense of humor had a way of lighting up a room and there was never a dull moment when he was around.   He was great storyteller who enjoyed capturing the imagination of people around him as he shared his experiences and his appreciation for simple things. The joy of his life was spending time with  family and friends who often referred to him as a peace maker, a man of joy and laughter, and a good-hearted man that everyone could rely on.

Gilbert departed this earthly life on Monday, February 27, 2023.  Although his parting leaves a void in our hearts, he has left us many fond memories that will never be forgotten.

He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his life, a devoted companion, Ernestine Moore; his loving daughter, Veronica Kendrick (Pablo Simmons); stepchildren, Terrance Moore and  Latrice Dukes; grandchildren, Donovan Gordon and Navy 2nd Class Petty Officer Brian Simmons; great grandchildren, London Defrietas and Isla Starling; siblings, Michael (Billie Ann) Hayes, Phillip Walker, Kent (Kim) Crowell, Michael Crowell, Dr. Angela Crowell, and Lisa Crowell; nephew and nieces, Dr. Dolphurs (Jocelyne) Hayes, Tiffany Hayes, Kelley Crowell, and Dr. Kim    Gilbert; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
