IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Gloria Jean
Thompson
August 1, 1955 – July 14, 2025
The season of life for Gloria Jean Williams Thompson began in Albany, Georgia on August 1, 1955. She was the beloved daughter of the late Roosevelt Williams, Sr. and Katie Mae Anderson.
She received her elementary and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Dougherty High School in 1973. During her early school years, Gloria developed an extreme fascination for sewing and fashion. As a result, she continued her education at Albany Area Technical School (College) in fashion design and apparel.
Gloria had the great privilege of growing up in a strong Christian home where the foundation for her walk the Lord was laid. Very early in life, she accepted Christ as her Savior and began her journey of Christian stewardship at Antioch Baptist Church. Over the years, she served faithfully as an Usher and stood proudly at her post greeting and ushering the congregation into the worship service. Gloria held fast to her position of "door keeper" in the house of the Lord until moving to Tennessee and later to California. Upon relocating back to Albany, she united Gethsemane Worship Center under the leadership and guidance of her brother, Bishop Frederick Williams, Sr. There, she served the Lord with her whole heart and availed herself unyieldingly in service with Team Emerald. Gloria loved her ministry and firmly believed that because the Lord called her to duty—to serve was truly an honor.
After meeting and becoming captivated by the late Ervin Covin, Sr., a courtship ensued which resulted in Gloria and Ervin being joined in holy matrimony. Their union was blessed with a loving daughter, Shadondra. In later years, she married Langston Beach; and with this union, twin sons were born—Shawn and Antwane. Although their life together ended in different directions, Gloria and Langston still remained cordial acquaintances. In 2003, Gloria was blessed with a another chance at love and marriage to Timothy Thompson. She was a loving wife and a devoted mother who ate not the bread of idleness and often sacrificed her needs for the good of her family. Daily, she offered much time and attention to their lives. Whether needing advice, a listening earl, or casual conversation, she was always available to hear them out and offer a steady hand. Known for her kind, gentle spirit and unconditional love, family was paramount in Georgia's life. Freely, she opened her heart and home to her nephew, Demario Williams, and was a beacon of inspiration for him. Yes, being loved by Gloria was to be loved for a lifetime.
Obtaining employment was never a problem for Gloria, as she was a very determined, conscientious, and persistent individual who was no stranger to hard work. She was a stellar employee at Saturn Automotive (currently General Motors) with unmatched work ethics and drive. Throughout her career, she never shied away from hard work; constantly exceeded department goals; received numerous promotions, and always gave her best—no matter what the task.
Upon retirement, she was lauded as a loyal, dedicated employee who rendered outstanding and unparalleled service.
Life was precious to Gloria and she genuinely cherished every moment spent here on earth. She was a pillar of fortitude and strength, took great pride in helping others—never asking anything in return, and always found a silver lining in every situation. Even in the midst of her two-year battle with cancer, Gloria persevered courageously until she faced the sunset of her earthly season on July 14, 2025. Although her transition leaves a void, we rejoice in Philippians 1:21, "For me to live is Christ, and to die is gain." In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Johnnie Bell Williams.
Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Shadondra Williams (Dererk), Shawn Beach, Antwane Beach, her siblings, Patricia Carter-Beckwith (Ernest), Larry Williams (Doris), Roosevelt Williams, Jr., Barbara Chatman (Charles), and Bishop Frederick Williams (Lady Felicia); three special cousins, Annie Bell Nichols, Elder Bonnie Williams, and Pastor Deborah Pope (Johnny); goddaughter, Monica Rushing; two god-sisters, Willie Mae Barnes and Angela Outlaw; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, and friends.
