Obituary

Gloriastine Wright Palmer entered the canvas of time on January 18, 1945 in Oakfield, GA. She was the beloved daughter of the late Genie Wright and Alice Fowler Wright. Gloriastine is the 8th of 12 children from their union.

"Gloria" spent her younger years matriculating through the Worth County School System while learning about God at the St. James Missionary Baptist Church. In the late 1960's life's transitions would lead a young Gloriastine Wright to Detroit, MI.

King Solomon said in Proverbs 18:22, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor from the LORD." Mr. Jerry V. Palmer found his good thing in Gloria and obtained favor indeed! They were united in marriage on August 23, 1970. Now introduced as "Mrs. Gloriastine Palmer," this beautiful woman of God served the Lord with gladness at the Greater Grace Temple under the leadership of the late Bishop David Ellis and the Bishop Charles Ellis, III.  She could be found teaching Sunday school on any given Sunday.

A hardworking couple, Gloria worked in retail and later settled her feet as a nutritionist in the Southfield Public School System. Additionally, she loved to spend her days outside in her garden and flower bed. The ending to a perfect day was sitting on the front porch with Jerry until the sun set.

"The memories we make with our family are everything," said Candace Cameron Bure. Gloria couldn't agree more. The holidays were always her favorite time of the year. Sweet potatoes, pumpkin pies, mac and cheese, and collards greens were sure to be on the menu. Palmer loved to cook and once filled with food and goodness… enjoyed sitting around the table with family and friends for laughter and conversation. Food, fellowship, and family were the perfect combination for her outspoken personality to shine.

In October of 2008, Gloriastine Palmer retired in Jonesboro, GA. On November 2, 2024, Gloria entered eternal retirement and rest as she responded to her Master's beckoning to come home. She is preceded in death by her siblings; brothers, Herbert Wright, Marion Wright, Wilbert Wright and David Wright, sisters; Yvonne Solomon, Myra Gammage, and Dorothy Branch.

The aroma of her unforgettable legacy will forever linger with those she leaves to remember: Her beloved husband of 54 years, Jerry Palmer; daughter, Vernisha Palmer; granddaughter, Nyla Palmer; siblings; Alice Ruth Wright, Joyce Stroud, Janice Calhoun (Dr. Fred), Alfred Wright (Mattie).  She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
