The journey of life for Gussie Mae Graham began in Luverne, Alabama on June 28, 1939. She was the beloved daughter of the late John Anderson and Kate Toles Anderson.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Blakely, Georgia, including Washington High School. Hailing from a family that valued higher education, she continued her quest for knowledge at Albany Technical School earning a degree in Nursing.
Very early in life, Gussie accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. As she continued her Christian walk in life, she united with the New Zion Hill Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia. Through the years, she was a dedicated member and a faithful servant of the Lord who remained steadfast in her service until her health declined. She dearly loved the Lord and her church family.
Gussie was united in marriage to Kenneth Graham. As a wife and mother, she was a persistent, hardworking woman who ate not the bread of idleness. For many years, she skillfully balanced her life as a homemaker along with her employment as a waitress at Nellie's Diner, cashier at Mack's Grocery, and a nurse at Palmyra Park Hospital. She later joined the ranks of employees at Procter and Gamble where she labored tirelessly as a technician until her retirement. Throughout her career, worked hard to pursue excellence in all that she did.
Mother Graham as she was affectionately called, was a strong but gentle woman who had a heart of gold and impacted many lives and families in the community. Her passionate, one-of-a-kind personality attracted a wide circle of people who became the recipients of a long, loving, and lasting friendship. She will be missed by family and friends who loved her dearly.
On July 1, 2020, Mother Graham transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Willie J. Anderson and Sanford Anderson.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Sharold Graham and Keith (Cynthia) Graham; siblings, Jesse (Gladys) Canty and Clara Anderson; grandchildren Sherrard (Indaneshia) Graham, Gerrard (Shanequa) Graham, Troy McClary, and Kenneth (Tempest) McClary; eight great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends .
