Obituary

Harris James Jackson, son of the late Judge W. Jackson and the late Mollie B. Fowler Jackson, was born in Sylvester, Georgia on July 23, 1949. He was the youngest of eight children.

He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County Public School System. Throughout school, James was an exemplary student who constantly searched for ways to further enhance his innate skills and abilities.

James was a talented house and industrial painter in his family's business, Charlie B. Jackson Enterprise, until a horrific car accident left him paralyzed during his twenties. Even in the midst of adversity, he never lost hope—never gave up. He had a fighting spirit and a fierce determination to overcome all obstacles that ultimately allowed him to live life to the fullest.

At the age of 30 after meeting the love of his life, Willie Mae Bogan, they became inseparable. Their personalities, sense of humor, love for life, and aspirations complimented each other— making it clear that they were destined to be life partners. Family and friends were central in his life and he cherished every moment spent with them. James was a devoted partner and father, a loving brother and uncle, and a committed cousin and friend whose life will forever be cherished.

Endearingly called "Money Loan Jackson" by his close friends, James had a big heart and a loving spirit. On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, he faced the sunset of his earthly journey at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, John Henry, Gloria Therone, R. L. Jackson, and Charlie B. Jackson.

He leaves loving memories that will forever remain with his faithful partner of 40 years, Willie Mae Bogan; his daughter, Monica B. (Arthur) Mays; siblings, Mary Lillian Jackson, Daisy Bell Bess, and Leonton (Irene) Jackson; two bonus children, Darrell (Sharee) Watson and Andrea (Reginald) Swan; a very special nephew, Demetri Sherrod Jackson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
