IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Harrison
Inegbenebor
July 12, 1953 – October 27, 2024
Harrison E. Inegbenebor, affectionately known as "Harry," was born on July 12, 1952, in Lagos, Nigeria. Raised in Benin City, Edo State.
Harry was the oldest of two sons born to the late Clifford and Comfort Inegbenebor. At the age of 19, he ventured to the United States,
seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. Settling in Brooklyn, New York, he took on various roles, including driving a New York City taxi cab, embodying the resilience and work ethic that marked his life.
In New York, Harry married the former Debra Wilson (of North Carolina), built a family, and shared three beloved children: Tasha, Ehimeh, and Mayowa. He was a caring young father who instilled his values of perseverance and the value of education in his children.
Harry's dedication to education led him to Albany State University, where he earned both a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree. Albany became home, and Harry's passion for teaching blossomed. For many years, he was a devoted and beloved biology teacher at Dougherty High School, where he made a lasting impact on countless students.
He also shared his love for learning as an adjunct biology professor at Albany State University. His students loved him and would affectionately call him "myneighbor" when they couldn't pronounce his name.
Beyond teaching, Harry was a man of many interests. He loved watching soccer, reading, and had a great appreciation for the movies. A proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., he enjoyed camaraderie and brotherhood with his fraternity members. Harry treasured
time outdoors, traveling, and exploring museums with friends and family. His humor and knack for telling jokes brought joy to those around him, and he took special care in maintaining his health, always keeping an eye on his diet.
Harry cherished his relationships, particularly with his dear mother Comfort, who remained a profound influence and a source of warmth in his life. He shared deep bonds with his brother Albert who lived with him in Albany for a time, his good friend Charles Mande, his very close
friend and colleague Flosie Atkins, and his dear cousins Henry and Esther Oaikhena. The Albany community held a special place in his heart, and he was a friend and confidant to many.
On October 27, 2024, at the age of 72, Harry peacefully began his final rest in Jesus, leaving a legacy of wisdom, and resilience. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Comfort, and his brother Eddie. He is survived by his children: Tasha (Atlanta, GA), Ehimeh (Atlanta, GA), Mayowa (Brooklyn, NY), Victor, and Clifford (both in Benin City, Edo State); seven grandchildren (Zamir, Naomi, Nala, Zion, Nia, Zen, and Jonah); his siblings Albert, Anthony, Peter, and Onofele (all residing in Nigeria, West Africa); and his wife, Philo Inegbenebor (Benin City, Edo State). Harry also leaves behind a community of cherished friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, and family in Albany, Georgia, the United Kingdom, Lagos, as well as Benin City, Edo State, and the Esan communities.
Harry's memory will be forever cherished by those who loved him, and his influence will live on through the lives he touched.
