IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Hattye
Bellamy
September 15, 1952 – February 11, 2025
Hattye James Bellamy was born on September 12, 1952, in Newton, Baker County, Georgia. She was the beloved daughter of the late Dan James, Jr. and Joshia Mae Holte James.
She was educated in the Baker County and Dougherty County School Systems, graduating from Monroe High School. Throughout school, Hattye was a very lively, energetic young lady who excelled academically while actively participating in various student organizations. Her passion, tenacity, and drive spilled over into her college years as she furthered her education at Albany Junior College and into adulthood.
Very early in life, Hattye was nurtured in the Word of God. As a youth, she accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She was a devoted member of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church where she blended her melodious voice with other members of the R. E. Ousley Angelic Choir to minister in song. Her faith and trust in God guided her life and allowed her to be an example for all who encountered her.
She was united in holy matrimony to Larry Bellamy, Sr. As a military wife stationed in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, Hattye took great care in caring for her family. She was a very energetic, meticulous homemaker who was well organized—everything had its place! After returning to Albany, she joined the ranks of employees at Sunnyland Farms as a production inspector. Daily, she poured herself into her work; never shied away from a challenge; and always gave her BEST! She retired after 30 years of loyal and dedicated service.
Endearingly called "Grownnie," Hattye had a zest for life in everything that she did. She had a servant's heart and took great pride in using her God-given talents to help others. Her home was a safe haven for many and her doors were always open to anyone in need. She was also an active member of the Albany American Legion Post 512. In her leisure, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and she loved to dance.
On February 11, 2025, Hattye transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandson, Rosini Jones Bellamy.
She is survived by her sons, Chaka James and Larry Bellamy; siblings, Rev. Dan James (Elaine), Rev. Donny James (Marissa), and Patricia Perdew-Paschal (Dr. Meikle); grandchildren, Santana, Chaka Jr., Jarvis, Shaka, Tremarious, Noah, Brinae, Ballarose, Cadius, Kyindé, Larry III, Devonte, and Diavian; and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and special caregivers, Mary Mitchell, Ivey Joe Hampton, and Nicole Rose.
