Obituary

Henrietta Smith Hollis, beloved daughter of the late Ezekiel and Serena Smith, was born in Baker County, Georgia on October 26, 1918.  During the early years of her life, she received her formal education in the Baker County School System.

As a youth, she heeded the call of Christ and began her journey with the Lord at the Ephesians Baptist Church of Newton, Georgia.  Through the years, she was a faithful, dedicated member who willingly served wherever needed.   She was a prayer warrior dearly loved the Lord.

Henrietta was joined in holy matrimony to Ben Hollis.  Their bond endured through the years as they honored their vows to love and cherish each other.  As a wife, mother, and grandmother, she was constant in her efforts to care for the needs of her family;  unwavering in her dedication to foster a home filled with love and joy; and diligent in her actions to conquer any t ask placed before her.  Family was paramount and her commitment to them was the cornerstone of who she was.

Always gentle, kind, and personable, "Rett or Mother Hollis" as she was affectionally called, was a selfless person who saw the beauty in all things, accepted everyone for who they were, and openly welcomed them into her heart and home.  She was a giver—always willing to give to others, especially her grandchildren who held the key to her heart.  She was a phenomenal mother, an extraordinary grandmother and great grandmother, a wonderful sister and aunt, a loving cousin, and an unforgettable friend.  In her free time, she enjoyed music, singing, dancing, and gardening.  She will be missed by all who loved her dearly.

On September 30, 2019, she peacefully entered into eternal rest.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Hollis; four children, Josh, Mariah, William, and Henry Hollis; seven siblings, William, J.D., Joseph, Henry, Bessie, Lucile, Jessie, and Ida Bell; and two grandsons, Amadius Douglas and Stafon Collins.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her daughters, Mary (Kenneth) Snead and Cathy Douglas; a special friend, Marvin Kennedy; sister-in-law, Alice Smith; twenty-two grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
