Obituary

Herman McClain, son of the late Alton and Betty Brown McClain, was born in Mitchell County, Georgia on September 20, 1958.

During the early years of his life, the family relocated to New Jersey where he attended the public schools of Irvington, New Jersey.   He continued his education at Essex County College having been awarded numerous academic scholarships.

As a youth, Herman heeded the call of Christ and began his walk with the Lord at the Zion Hill Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey.

Mickey , as he was affectionately called, was a very outgoing person who garnered much from his life experiences. Although doctors gave him only 20 years to live, God granted him 38 more years beyond man's expectancy. His courage and strength helped everyone realize that every day was a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories. His smile, thoughtfulness, and humble spirit will long be remembered by all who were so dear to him.

On Monday, June 5, 2017, Mickey's earthly journey ended and he entered into eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Alton McClain, Jr.

He leaves to cherish fond memories three siblings, Sherita (Jeff) Ross o Albany, GA, Richard Stewart McClain of Winter Haven, FL, and Charles McClain of Irvington, NJ; a very special uncle, Reverend Joe D. McClain of Irvington, NJ; nieces and nephews, Tera, Layoya, Richard, Isaiah, Nakita, Travis, Marya, Ashley, Kylenea, Marquis, and Quenzell; one brother-in-law, Jeffery Ross of Albany, GA; two sisters-in-law, Jean S. Stewart of Columbia, SC and Sharon H. McClain of Irvington, NJ; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.

Weep not for me though I have gone
Into that gentle night;
Grieve if you will, but not for long
Upon my soul's sweet fight.

I am at peace, my soul's at rest
There is no need for tears;
For with your love I was so blessed
For all those many years.

There is no pain, I suffer not
The fear is now all gone;
Put now these things out of your thoughts
In your memory I love on.

Remember not my fight for breath
Remember not the strife;
Please do not dwell upon my death
But celebrate my life.
