IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Irma Eloise
Williams
July 4, 1933 – May 31, 2020
The journey of life for Irma Eloise Williams began in Camilla, Georgia on July 4, 1933. She was the beloved daughter of the late Vassie Knight and Ada Wheeler Knight.
She received her formal education in the public schools of Mitchell County and was active in various school activities and functions.
Very early in life, Irma accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. As she continued her Christian walk, she united with the Cutliff Grove Baptist Church of Albany, Georgia. Irma was a praying, she communed with the Lord daily, and she didn't mind spreading the Word of God wherever she went. Oftentimes in her daily walk, she could be heard saying, "Jesus Christ is a powerful man" and she remained steadfast throughout her life.
Mom , as she was affectionately called, was a lady of many talents who enjoyed sharing her gifts with others. She was an exceptional cook and the kitchen was her favorite place to be. Her love and passion for creating succulent food landed her the position of head chef at the Gordon Hotel. Through the years, she cooked with instinct and created flavors that would go "Pow" in your mouth. Her attention to detail, work ethics, and expertise in food service and hospitality were second to none. She was a true "master" of her trade.
Often described as a strong but gentle woman, Mom had a heart of gold and impacted many lives and families in the community. Anyone who knew her also knew that family and friends were cherished gifts. Her passionate, one-of-a-kind personality attracted a wide circle of people who became the recipients of a long, loving, and lasting friendship. Mom enjoyed the basics of life—spending time with her family, gardening, planting flowers, and canning and preserving.
On May 31, 2020, at Wynfield Park LTC, Irma/Mom transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Mary (Joseph Sr.) Lowery of Hartsville, SC, Charlie Knight and Barbara Griffin both of Albany GA; one brother, Lenwood (Nora) Knight, Sr. of Cleveland, OH; grandchildren, Joseph Lowery, Jr. of Columbia, SC, Kimberly Baptiste of Atlanta, GA, Torrey (Monique) Knight and Kelley Knight of Albany, GA; nine great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
