Jamerson Katope Wingfield was born in Albany, Georgia on August 11, 1956. He was the son of John D. Wingfield, Sr. and the late Mattie Pearl Jordan Wingfield.
During the early years of his life, he attended the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Westover High School.
In 1976, Jamerson became disabled as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. Even in the midst of all life's challenges, Jamerson pressed forward and never gave up. His courage and fortitude helped to remind us that everyday is a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
"Tope" as he was affectionately called, was extremely devoted to his family and friends whom he loved unconditionally. He was selfless in giving whatever he had to help others in need, and would always drop everything to help a friend without asking anything in return. In his leisure, he enjoyed playing dominoes and spades with family and friends, drinking coffee, and watching westerns. Tope didn't walk an easy path in life, but he brought joy and laughter to all that he met along the way. He will long be remembered by his incredible strength and his unshakeable determination and resolve.
On Saturday, January 13, 2018, Tope departed this earthly life at the Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his brother, Issac Jordan.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Jackie Riley Wingfield; father, John D. Wingfield, Sr.; daughters, Latoya and Shekeitha; numerous grandchildren; siblings, Darlene Jordan, Howard Wingfield, and John D. Wingfield, Jr.; nieces and nephews, Angelique Riggins, Ricky Lamons, Hester Bell, Tiffany McDuffie, and Del Johnson; and a host of great nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
