IN LOVING MEMORY OF
James Clyde
Horton, Jr.
February 19, 1943 – December 13, 2022
James Clyde Horton, oldest child of the late William Horton and Lucy Lee Proctor, was born in Albany, Georgia on February 19, 1943.
He received his formal education in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe High School in 1960. While at Monroe, he was a very inquisitive and perceptive young man who actively participated in various school organizations, activities, and events.
Early in life, James accepted Christ as his Savior and remained humble and prayerful throughout his daily walk.
Believing strongly in loyalty and commitment to his country, James enlisted in the United States Army where he was assigned to numerous posts in the US and abroad. At the close of his tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge and returned home to civilian life.
He was united in marriage to Constance Horton. In later years, he met and married Jessie Kate Hardwick. James devoted much of his time and energy caring for the needs of his children and ensuring their happiness. Through the years, he taught his children the value of hard work as he labored untiringly with Lewis Tree Service. He was a loyal, reliable employee; prided himself in a job well done; and retired having rendered innumerable years of dedicated service.
Family and friends meant the world to James and he delighted in spending quality time with them—especially his grandchildren who held the key to his heart. He was a kind, generous man who greeted each day with a smile and was always "on call" to help anyone in need. He had a big heart for all things in life. Janes was the best father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend that anyone could ever have. He will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of being a part of his life.
On December 12, 2022, James finished his course and was called to eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, William Horton and Tommy Horton.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by his children, Timothy Johnson, Lawanna Horton Hunter (Tyrone), and James Horton, Jr. (Stephanie James) all of Albany, GA; two brothers, Frank Hines (Hilda) and George Proctor; grandchildren, Iesha Hunter, Shakira Johnson, Tyrone Hunter, Jr., and Shontianna Hunter; five great grandchildren; two godchildren; special nephew and nieces, Cedric Horton, Linda Davis, and Gail Moreland; and a host of other nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
