Obituary

James Woodrow Malone, Sr. was born in Albany, Georgia on October 15, 1957.  He was the son of the late Clara Lue Malone Jones and  the late Mike Malone.

He attended the public schools of Dougherty County, including Monroe High School where he graduated in 1975.  During his high school years, he was active in numerous school organizations, activities, and sporting events.

At an early age, James accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.  He was a dedicated member of Mt Hebron Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully as an   Usher.  When standing at the doors of the church, there was always a smile on his face when greeting the congregation.  He held fast to his position of "door keeper" in the house of the Lord.  Even when faced with health challenges, he remained steadfast; knowing that the joy of the Lord was his strength.  Oftentimes in his daily walk, he could be heard encouraging everyone to "Hold on to God's unchanging hand."

Having been blessed with gifted hands and an eye for detail, James developed a fascination for fashion design and sewing while in high school.  As he worked to cultivate and enhance his talents, he began fusing exquisite cuts and sophisticated lines to create an innovative style that was unique and recognizable.  James was not happy with simply designing clothes, he wore the styles that he created; thus, becoming one of Albany's most fashionable icons of his time.  In later years, his creative abilities spilled over into the millwork industry where he worked as a carpenter.  For more than 20 years, he was loyal employee of Giles Building Supply.  He thought outside of the box and created distinctive, custom designs to meet clients' needs.  No project was too big or too small—he worked diligently to ensure that his work was "one-of-a-kind" and flawless.  In

Affectionately known as "Flop," James had a variety of interests throughout his life.  He enjoyed cooking, designing, spending time with family and friends, and attending parties and gatherings.  He had a big heart and gave of himself freely.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who loved him dearly.

On June 20, 2020, James transitioned to eternal peace. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Samuel Malone; two aunts, Doris Hendley and Inez Turner; and one uncle, Woodrow Moore.

He leaves cherished memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Ta'Sherea L. Malone of Albany, GA and James W. Malone, Jr. of College Park, GA; grandchildren, Cameron J. Prophet and Londyn T. Mays of Albany, GA, Semaj Malone and Zion Malone of Washington, DC, and King Malone of College Park, GA; siblings, Yvonne Terrell, Gloria Malone, Mike (Betty) Malone, Jr., and Kenny Malone all of Albany, GA; aunt and uncle, Janita (David) Reese of Albany, GA and Arthur (Mary) Moore, Jr. of Elkgrove, CA; sister-in-law, Estella Moore of Albany, GA; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a very special friend,  Essie Bonner.
