IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Jesse James
Davis
December 5, 1949 – November 9, 2023
On Thursday morning, November 9th, our loved one, husband, brother, father, grandfather, and uncle, Jesse James Davis, opened his eyes to his last day in this world. Since his death stories about him continues to be told. How he sacrificed his time to help his family and the impact he made on countless people, both traits that make his death a double-edged sword. And yet, here we sit asking, "Why? Why, O Lord, snatch from this world a beautiful soul? We will never know. And should the Creator, the Father of Jesse, tell us, chances are we still wouldn't understand.
Born to Beulah and Eugene Davis, December 5, 1949, in Redrock (Lee County), Georgia. Jesse, known to many as 'War Horse' grew up in Albany, Georgia where he was a standout football player, graduating from Monroe High School in 1968. After graduation he joined the United States Army and proudly served in Vietnam. Jesse was a proud Vietnam Veteran.
His passions were singing, writing songs, playing the guitar, doing crossword puzzles, and dancing. Jesse was a protector of his family, and everyone in the neighborhood knew not to "mess" with War Horse sisters. With a family full of comedians, he was by far the funniest and would make us laugh and laugh. As a certified professional automotive engineer for more than 15 years he worked as a dedicated mechanic at Faircloth and Sons. With his knowledge of vehicles, if it rolled, had a motor and engine he could fix it. Although Jesse has transitioned, his jokes, quirky smile, silly dances, and warm spirit will forever live in our hearts.
He leaves to mourn his wife Betty Sheppard Davis; four children, Shamone Knight (Felix), Aleathea Levias, Monalita Williams all of Albany, Georgia; and Tardavious Ford (Tywana) of Tallahassee, Florida; one stepson, Troy Sheppard (Terry) of Orlando, Florida; seven siblings, Fannie Riggins, Shirley Davis, Major Davis Longstreet (Andrea), and Mary Salvage of Albany, Georgia, Rhonda Brown and Sherry Vaughan of Covington, Georgia, and Pearl Davis Longstreet of Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Jesse also leaves to cherish his memories fifteen (15) grandchildren, nineteen (19) greatgrandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents
Beulah Longstreet and Eugene Davis, two (2) sisters (Virginia Luke and Stella Bush), and one son (Gary Williams).
