Jimmie Lee Simmons, son of the late Jim Simmons and Lucy Kate Boyd Simmons, was born in Baker County, Georgia on July 4, 1943.

During the early years of his life, he received his formal education in the Baker County School System, including East Baker High School where he was active in various school activities and functions.

At an early age, he professed his faith and belief in Christ Jesus. In later years as a young adult, he united with the Chapel Hill Baptist Church of Baker County.

He was united in marriage to Mamie Jones and they were blessed with five children. Jimmie was a caring and devoted father who loved his family dearly. Never satisfied with idleness, he wore several hats throughout his professional career to provide unconditionally for his family. For numerous years, he was employed at Snow White Laundry and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Albany. In later years, he moved to Miami, Florida and began a lengthy career with the Sanitation Department. Jimmie's final career venture landed him in Hartford, Connecticut where he owned and operated a successful window cleaning business for many years. In 2014, he retired from the business and relocated back to Albany.

Being surrounded by family and friends filled Jimmy's heart. Whether a family reunion, an outdoor gathering, or just sitting around reminiscing and laughing, Jimmy treasured the times and special events that brought family and friends together in love and harmony. He had a kindness of heart that will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

On Sunday, August 5, 2018, Jimmy answered his final call and entered into eternal rest.

He leaves precious memories that will forever remain in the hearts of his children, Diane, Barbara (Desmond), Kelvin (Irene), and Cheryl (Daniel) all of Hartford, CT, and Tara (Donnie) of Augusta, GA; eight siblings, Minnie Kendrick, Elizabeth (Willie) Weston, Lula Castleberry, Melia Acree, and Raymond Simmons all of Albany, GA, Rosa (Larry) Furlough of Ellenwood, GA, Annie Lee of Hartford, CT, and Linda Simmons-Green of Dumfries, VA; seven grand-children and two great grandchildren; one sister-in-law; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, loved ones, and two very special friends.
