Obituary

Jimmy Lee Burden was born March 13, 1939, in Mitchell County, Georgia.  He was the beloved son of the late Lee Wiley Burden and Novella Edwards Burden.

He received his formal education in the Mitchell County School System and actively participated in numerous school activities and events.

Growing up in a loving and prayer filled home, Jimmy was taught to reverence God early in life.  As a youth, he accepted Christ as his personal Savior; was baptized; and became member of Mitchell Grove Baptist Church, thus,  beginning of a lifetime journey of Christian stewardship.  Upon relocating to Albany, he united with the Greater Cutliff Grove Baptist Church where he was ordained as a Deacon and thereafter, devoted himself to unparalleled commitment and service to his calling. Deacon Burden was a man who was strong in faith, in character, and in wisdom.  Whatever his hands found to do, he did it faithfully with joy.  Having been blessed with the gift of song, he fervently utilized his voice to minister in song with the "Southern Gospel Singers," and "The Southern Quintet Gospel Singers" both groups of Albany, and  the Greater Cutliff Grove  Male Chorus.  Through the years, their singing was intense, their message was powerful, and he gave his all to the Glory of God.

He was united in marriage to Gloria Young and their union was blessed with three loving children—Jimmy, Marsha, and Calvin.  Deacon Burden was a family man with unmatched devotion to his children.  Over the years, he taught them the value of hard work through his employment at Giles Building Supply. He was a dedicated employee, prided himself in a "job well done", and retired as a supervisor having rendered years of loyal service.   Throughout his life, Deacon Burden enjoyed many interesting experiences.  In the 70's and 80's, he was an avid 300 bowler who devoted much of his time leading  his team to victory.

Loving father, unfailing  brother and uncle, caring cousin, and loyal friend, Deacon Burden had a big heart and a generous spirit.  His friendliness and kindness to all people, his commitment to his church, and his devotion and love for his family and friends are lasting tributes to who he was.  He will be deeply missed.

On June 17, 2022, Deacon Burden transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace with the Lord.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jimmy Burden; and his sister, Lurleen Edwards.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by his children, Marsha Burden and Calvin Burden; his uncle and aunt, Thomas Daniels and Martha Burden Brown; devoted cousins, Tim and Emma Ruth Shelton; nieces and nephews; and a host of cousins, church family, and friends.
