Jimmy was educated in the Lee County School System and graduated in 1966 from Lee County Training School. He was drafted into the US Army and served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War.
At an early age he joined Macedonia Baptist Church in Lee County.
Jimmy was employed with Firestone Rubber Company until the plant closed in 1986. He was later employed by Better Brands and retired in 2009. After retirement he worked part-time at the Albany Herald until 2016.
Jimmy was married to Mrs. Beatrice Carr in 1966. From this union eight children were born. In 1997 he married Juanita Williams Nelson.
Jimmy was hand-chosen by God and plucked up on Monday, February 6, 2017 at his residence. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings, Essie Owens and Frank Fletcher, Sr..
Jimmy leaves a legacy of love to be cherished by his wife, Juanita Fletcher, eight children, Regina (Curtis) Ezell, Cassandra (Benjamin) Worthy, Alicia Fletcher, Amanda Fletcher, Angela Fletcher, Jimmy Lee Fletcher, Jr., Jerome Fletcher, and Timothy Fletcher; two stepsons, Keith Nelson and Cedric (Angela) Nelson; and a host of other relatives and friends.
