Obituary

Jimmy Lee Moore, beloved son of the late Mack and Mary Price Moore, was born in Blakely, Georgia on August 7, 1940.

He was educated in the Early County School System, graduating from Washington High School in the class of 1960. While at Washington High, he participated in track and field, basketball, and the chorus.

At an early age, Jimmy accepted Christ and joined Jerusalem AME Church of Blakely, Georgia. After moving to Albany, he joined the Mt. Holder Baptist Church where he served faithfully. He later united with the Greater Cutliff Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend E. J. Smith. His current pastor is Rev. McKinley Drake. He served as Chairman of the Deacon and Trustee Ministries, Founder and President of the Inspirational Male Chorus, and President of the Senior Choir. Deacon Moore actively served in other ministries until his health declined, including Tribe Leader, Birth Month Ministry Leader, Board of Directors for the Cutliff Grove Family Resource Center, and regularly attended Sunday School and Bible Study.

He was united in holy matrimony on August 12, 1962, to his high school sweetheart, Rubye Jean Ford. Their union spanned a period of 55 years, and they were blessed with three daughters. His love for family was his greatest source of happiness.

Jimmy's professional career was diverse and rewarding. He was a loyal and dedicated employee of the Fulton Paper Company for 30 years and a school bus driver for the Dougherty County School System where he retired after many years of service. His ambition, drive, and fervor spurred him to become a small business entrepreneur. For numerous years, he owned and operated Jimmy's Amoco Service Center on Jefferson Street in Albany. Jimmy enjoyed being active in community and civic organizations to include Coffee Drinkers Breakfast Club. He was founder and president of the Channel Master's CB Radio Club, a civic organization for communicating across the country, and was known as "Ground Hog."

Deacon Moore developed a devotional plan that became a habit and daily lifestyle in which God showed himself to him in many ways. He had the uncanny ability to bring joy and celebration to all those he touched. Affectionately called "Big Daddy" he was uplifting and motivating through his musical talents and a pillar of his community.

On Saturday, January 13, 2018, Deacon Moore departed this earthly life for his prepared place in our Savior's kingdom. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four siblings, W. D. (Rosa) Moore, Benjamin Moore, Rachel (Ivory Jr.) Everette, and Earnestine McDuffy.

He leaves to cherish his legacy a loving and dedicated wife, Rubye Jean Ford-Moore; daughters, Carolyn Moore-Harris (Kim Patrick) and Daphne Moore-Nelson (Wallace) of Albany, and Dawn Moore-Williams (Stacy) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Carla Bigham (Ben), Cayla Moore, Chacarri Gray, Vanessa and Alesha Nelson, Jalen and Jordan Williams; great grandchildren, Savana and Sumer Bellmon, Carter Gray, and Eli Peak; siblings, Ruby L Moore, Lula P.
