Obituary

Joe Lee Washington, the youngest of six children, was born on June 4, 1960, to the late George and Lucille Jackson Washington.

He received his formal education in the Dougherty County Public School System, including Albany High School where he graduated in the class of 1974.

As a youth, he began his fellowship with Christ at the First Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church and served faithfully until his health declined.

He was united in holy matrimony to Patricia Dupree. This union endured for 38 years and was blessed with one son. Joe was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who worked hard to make a good life for his family.   He was a talented and skilled carpenter and brick mason, having been employed numerous years with Trent Construction Company. No matter what the task, he always took great pride in his work.

Joe enjoyed being active and especially loved spending quality time with his family and friends. His quick wit and encouraging smile made him a favorite among all who came in contact with him. He will long be remembered as a man with a big heart, a contagious smile, and a compassionate spirit.

On Monday, May 1, 2017, he quietly departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three siblings, Brenda Washington, Bernice Hill Washington, and Bobby Ozell Washington.

He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories a loving and devoted wife, Patricia Dupree Washington; his son, Jermaine (Callie) Dupree; two stepchildren, Michael Irvin and Lanconia Irving; two brothers, George (Bertha) Washington and Murray (Mary) Washington; sister-in-law, Diane Hall; one uncle, Ben (Catherine) Thomas; seven grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Safe In God's Keeping
I am home in heaven, dear ones,
Oh! so happy and so bright,
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief are over,
Every restless yearning passed;
I am now at peace forever
Safely home in heaven at last.
Dear one's do not grieve so sorely
For I love you dearly still;
Try to look beyond earth's shadow's,
Pray to trust our Father's will.
When your work is all completed
He will gently call you home,
Oh! the rapture of that meeting
Oh! the joy to see you come.
