IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joe
Witchard
February 1, 1959 – July 13, 2025
Joe Lee Witchard was born in Terrell County, Georgia on February 1, 1959. He was the beloved son of the late James and Idella Witchard.
He received his early childhood education in the Terrell County School System. After relocating to Albany, Georgia with his family, he attended the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe Comprehensive High School. While at Monroe, Joe was an exceptional athlete whose physical talent and natural ability could be seen from the moment he picked up a basketball or walked onto a track field. He was proud to be a "Golden Tornado" all-around lettered athlete.
A very determined, conscientious, and persistent individual, Joe was proud of the custodial services he provided to the faculty, staff, and students in the Dougherty County School System. He never settled for a task that was half done nor anything less than an excellent job. His school was sparkling and organized; and he was always available to go that "extra mile" when anyone needed him. Like a lighthouse beacon, Joe never failed to brighten up the space in which he stood. He retired having rendered innumerable years of loyal and dedicated service.
Joe had a spirit of sunshine, humor, and laughter that could be felt by everyone around him. Family and friends meant the world to him and he cherished spending time with them, making every gathering memorable with his smile and witty sense of humor. He was full of life, love, and kindness; was a great conversationalist and storyteller; was kind-hearted and generous; and he forged strong bonds of friendship throughout his life that will forever be remembered. In his leisure, he enjoyed bowling, basketball, and card games.
On July 13, 2025, Joe transitioned from this earthly life to eternal peace and rest. Although his departure leaves a void in the hearts of many, his wonderful life will forever be remembered. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jermaine Witchard; and six siblings, Willie Witchard, James Witchard, Charles Witchard, Jessie Witchard, Mattie Jones, and Eva Banks.
Cherished memories will forever remain with his beloved companion of over 20 years, Donna Gardner; a bonus daughter with whom he shared a cherished bond, Daffany Gardner (Richard Allen); his loving and forever-devoted sister, Janie M. Clyde; two very special nieces, Shirley Banks and Symone Eady; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family, and friemds.
