IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John
Alston
December 17, 1956 – April 8, 2021
With thanksgiving in our hearts to God, we celebrate the life of Brother John Rufus Alston who was born on December 17, 1956, in Dawson, Georgia. He was the beloved son of the late Rufus and Willie Bell Alston.
He received his formal education in the Terrell County School System, graduating from Terrell County High in 1975. Throughout school, he was actively involved in various student organizations, activities, and sporting events.
Early in his childhood, John was immersed in the Christian community that would be his lifelong support. He began his journey with the Lord at Living Waters Church of God where he served faithfully for many years. He was a dedicated servant of the Lord who was unfaltering in his devotion and commitment as a Deacon. In later years, he united the Real Church under the leadership of Bishop Norman Pierce. John was a prayerful, humble man who didn't mind telling everyone about the goodness of God. In all of his involvements, he served joyfully—always seeking to please God and to help others.
Blessed with a strong work ethic, John established himself as a conscientious, persistent, punctual, loyal, and dedicated employee of Oxford Construction Company for 45 years. No matter what the task, he took pride in his work and stayed the course to ensure that nothing was ever left undone. Over the years, he received numerous accolades and recognition for exemplary service.
John was united in holy matrimony to his beloved soulmate, Jeanette Spencer. Their union was unshakeable and endured for 44 years. His love for his wife was unmatched—she was the sparkle in his, the beat in his heart, and the air that he breathed. He was a hard working husband and father who was extremely dedicated to his family and committed to God. Just as he loved being outside enjoying the beauty of the earth, he also loved the company of his wife, children, grandchildren, siblings, nieces and nephews, church members, and people throughout the community who were blessed by his kind words, deeds, and congenial spirit. The strong bonds of friendship that he developed throughout his life will forever be cherished and remembered.
On Thursday, April 8, 2021, John transitioned from his earthly vessel to be with his Lord and Savior. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Tamika D. Green; and his sister, Cynthia B. Alston.
