IN LOVING MEMORY OF
John Frank
Thompson
December 22, 1944 – September 17, 2025
John Frank Thompson, affectionately known as "Big Frank," was born December 22, 1944, in Blair, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Ray Thompson and Lily Ruth McGraw.
John was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marines. Throughout his life, he was a hardworking man, and wore many hats in his career, including serving as a police officer and working as a truck driver. His towering height was matched only by his grand personality and powerful singing voice. Those who knew him would remember his love for music, whether it was gospel or classic Motown. John also faithfully served as a deacon, first in Myrtle Beach, SC, and later at Shiloh Baptist Church in McDonough, Georgia.
John met his beloved wife, Olivia, while living in Bronx, New York. They were married on October 31, 1999, and shared a 26-year union filled with love and devotion. Together, their blended family grew to include 15 children—John's 7 and Olivia's 8; and a remarkable legacy of 33 grandchildren.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Thompson and Lily Ruth McGraw; his siblings, Gloria Jones, Celeste Thompson, and Hardy Nuness; and his cherished sons, Franklin "Bear" Thompson and Yusef Thompson.
John is survived by his beloved wife, Olivia; his children from his former marriage, Teresa Thompson, Frank Thompson (Shakaro), Linda Stone, Curtis Thompson and Shawn Thompson; his siblings, Tyrone Nuness, Salina Nuness; and a host of stepchildren, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends who will all cherish his memory.
