Obituary

John Lucious Walton Jr., son of Mattie Lou Barnes and the late John Walton, Sr., was born in Columbus, Georgia on December 20, 1941.

He attended the public schools of Treutlen County and Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe High School. He continued his quest for knowledge at Albany Technical School in the area of Automotive Service Technology.

John obeyed the Gospel of our Lord that was presented to him by Brother Rayford Bell and Brother Marion Holliday. After obeying the gospel, he worshiped at US 19 Church of Christ.

John met and married the love of his life, Juanita Garner. They were blessed with five daughters whom they nurtured with love, patience, and understanding. Through the years having honed his mechanical talents and skills, John embarked on his professional journey as an automotive mechanic—a career that spanned more than 50 years. His expertise in the industry, workmanship, and professional ethics yielded him the reputation of being "top notch" in his field. He found joy and solace in his lifelong passion that enabled him to provide unconditionally for his family.

Devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, caring brother and uncle, and loyal cousin and friend, John was hardworking, generous, and kind. His warm smile, sense of humor, and encouraging words touched the lives and hearts of many people. He enjoyed fishing, listening to music, telling jokes, watching westerns, and spending time with family and friends.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2017, John departed this life at the Wynfield Park Health and Rehabilitation Center. In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his loving stepfather, Walter Barnes; and two brothers, Jimmy and Michael.

He leaves to cherish fond memories of a life well lived, his beloved wife of 54 years, Juanita Garner Walton; his mother, Mattie Lou Barnes; five daughters, Sylvia, Patricia (Charles), Linda, Stephanie (Raymond), and Janice (Kornelio); six grandchildren, Corey (Vajuanda), Creston, Raymond III, Sydney, Theodore, and Kornelio; three great grandchildren, Corey, Chase, and Aujahie; eight siblings, Betty (Sam), Barbara, Mary, Phyllis Ann, Charlie, Nathaniel (Sonja), Gary (Joann), and Walter; his mother-in-law, Beatrice Smith; numerous brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; and his adopted families and special friends, Sonya Walker, Mabel Mims, and the Barrett, Bell, and Smith families.
