Obituary

To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heavens." Ecclesiastes 3: 1

A Time to be Born: Sister Johnnie Mae Childs Green was born on March 29, 1937 in Newton, Georgia to the late Henry Childs, Sr. and Arrie Trice Childs.

A Time to Plant: At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and joined the Weldon Springs Baptist Church. Upon moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL, she joined the Piney Grove Street Baptist Church where she attended faithfully. She will be remembered as a loving, kind and spirited individual who loved life and loved her family and her friends.

A Time to Love: She was united in holy matrimony to the late Mr. R. L. Green. To this union, one loving and devoted son, Carlton Green, was born. The joy and pleasures of her life were being around and united with her family. She was passionate about making sure everyone was happy and well – and even though she was distant in location from many family members, she stayed in close contact with them. She was always full of life, joyful and a peace maker.

A Time to Build: During her work tenure, she was employed by the Fort Lauderdale Board of Education. She also worked many years with Dr. Morris Funk and his wife Judy, and they were present during her final hours.

A Time to Laugh: Johnnie enjoyed life to the fullest and it was truly reflected in everything she did. She made friends easily, and people enjoyed being around her because she had a friendly demeanor; she could converse with anyone on any level about any topic. She loved sports and keeping up with current events -- and like most members of her family -- she was an excellent cook.

A Time of Peace: The final call of God to come home was received by her Monday, July 23, 2018, where she was surrounded by family and loved ones. Johnnie was fully prepared and ready to be with the Lord--and spent the final days of her life spreading love to her family and friends and getting her affairs in order. She was a true inspiration to all who visited her before her departure. The legacy of her season is left to her precious son who she lovingly referred to as "Poochie": Carlton Green (wife – the late Aleasa Green and devoted fiancé, Deion Echols); grandsons: Kevin Smith and Marvin Jones; granddaughters: Aisha Higgins and Jamie Higgins; eleven grandchildren: Bre'Shawn, Alexis, Jermiah, Caleb, Keyon, Kaleb, Kadence, De' Shawn, Chantalay, Za'Shawn and Marvin, Jr. all of Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Eleven brothers and sisters: Artis Lee Childs, Walter Childs, H. C. Childs, Helen Pryor, Ruby Lee Bowen, and Odessa Green -- all of whom preceded her in death; Eunice Lawrence, Ora Lee Gadson, Rosetta Bennett Lamb, Margaret Works (all of Albany, Georgia) and Betty Dennis (of Fort Lauderdale, Florida). A host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives; two special life-time friends: Dianna McCall and Ernestine Fuller and many other friends.
