Obituary

Johnnie Bell Hunter was born in Sasser, Georgia on October 2, 1925, to the John and Daisy Mitchell.

Early in life, she began her journey with  the Lord at Macedonia Baptist Church.  In 1937, she united with the County Line Missionary Baptist Church where she remained a dedicated member until her demise.  During her many years of Christian stewardship she served faithfully as treasurer of the #1 Usher Board and member of the Mission Board.  "Ms. Johnnie Bell and Mother Hunter" as she was endearingly called, was a prayer warrior and her powerful and infectious faith in God kept her spiritually strong.  She was also a member of several  groups outside of her church, including the Citywide Prayer Band, Tuesday Prayer Band, Beulah MBC Friday Noonday Prayer Band, Pine Chapel Early Morning Services, and the Ransom Industrious Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Stars, Inc..  Mother Hunter dearly loved Jesus, studied the Word of God, and was devoted to her church and the ministries and organizations in which she belonged.

In 1970, she was united in marriage to Johnnie M Hunter.  With this  union, they became a blended family with four children whom they loved dearly.  She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and meticulous homemaker who was most diligent in caring for the needs of her family through her employment in the cleaning industry. She had a quiet strength, never complained, and always had a beautiful, gentle smile.

Blessed beyond measure, Ms. Johnnie Bell lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 96; and was loved by all who had the privilege of her fellowship.  Mother Hunter built an unmatched life of service and devotion to her family, friends, and community while opening the umbrella of her heart in countless ways.  She had a nurturing and caring spirit, was always willing to share her experiences with others, would lend a listening ear to those in need of compassion and support, and freely opened her heart and home to family and friends..

Mother Roberts quietly and peacefully transitioned from this earthly journey at Wynfield Health and Rehabilitation Center on August 14, 2021.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Johnnie M. Hunter; her daughter, Jaqueline Hunter; and six siblings, Pinkie L. Brantley, Jack Mitchell, Rev. James H. Reynolds, Oberziner S. Cheeks, Rosa L. Griffin, and John Mitchell, Jr.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Denise Odum of Rochester, NY, Sylvia Hunter of Newark, NJ, and Johnnie Hunter, Jr. of Willingboro, NJ; two sisters-in-law, Brenda Reynolds of Albany, GA and Ethel Dorsey of Edison, GA; grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, East Residence and Colonia Neighborhood Watch family; and friends.
