IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnnie C.
Jones "J.C."
December 26, 1930 – October 22, 2023
A time to be born: On December 26, 1930, Johnnie C. Jones, also known as "JC," was born in Blakely, GA to the
late Mr. and Mrs. Reatha Mae and Roosevelt Jones, Sr. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Rosa Lee Sanders, Mary Liza Hutchens, Azzie Lee Williams, and Willie Pearl Harris, brothers, Alex Jones, Jack Jones, Roosevelt Jones, Jr. and his twin brother, Willie C. Jones.
A time to learn: Johnnie matriculated in the Early County School System but, unfortunately, did not graduate because he had to work to help support his family. He would later receive his GED from Albany Technical School.
A time for patriotism: Johnnie decided that he could not envision his life working in the fields or a peanut farm. He convinced his boss to help him enlist in the Army. Starting in 1952, Johnnie would proudly and courageously serve his country, which included serving as a combat medic in the Korean War. Johnnie left active duty and transferred to the National Guard serving in the USAR Georgia Military District. He received a National Defense Service Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. He retired from the National Guard Medical Platoon in 1990. Johnnie was extremely proud of his 38 years of dedicated service!
A time to love: On December 17, 1954, he married his beautiful wife, Elois Spencer Jones. Together, they would live in Alabama, Texas and Hawaii while he was on active duty until they settled in Albany, GA. They were blessed with four children, Earl, Shirley, Deborah and Johnnie
Louise.
A time to serve God: Johnnie loved God. As a child, he was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Blakely, GA. After moving to Albany, he and Elois joined Bethel African Methodist Episcopal Church where he was a faithful member and served as a Trustee. He sang bass in
Choir #2 and for the Male Chorus for years and would also sing with the C & D Male Chorus, traveling to surrounding area churches to sing about the goodness and greatness of the Lord. He was also a member of the Prince Hall Masonic Lodge.
A time to labor: Using his Army medical training, Johnnie worked as an orderly in Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital before starting his career as a heavy mobile equipment repairman at the Albany Marine Corps Logistics Base. After retiring as a supervisor, he saw a community need and worked as a school crossing guard for students who attended Flintside Elementary School. He also served as the first Neighborhood Watch president for the Flintland Subdivision.
A time to laugh: Johnnie grew up singing and dancing with his siblings for friends and family. He loved playing checkers and watching the Dodgers Baseball team. He also loved gardening and would give his family, neighbors, and friends beautiful fresh vegetables. He enjoyed telling funny stories and jokes.
More than anything, Johnnie loved people and he genuinely loved his family.
A time to die: One glad Sunday morning, October 22, 2023, the Lord decided that Johnnie had faithfully labored long enough and called him home.
A time to mourn: Johnnie leaves to cherish his memories: a son, Earl M. Spencer (Bonnie) of Green
Bay, WI; three daughters – Shirley Ann Roberts (Frank), Deborah Delores Jones (Ronnie Roberts),
both of Albany, and Johnnie Louise Ford of Riverdale, GA; a niece who was more like a daughter, Melissa Boneta Davis (Melia and Liam) of Fayetteville, GA; three grandsons: Darron Leon Ducksworth (Tamara Carter), Dunwoody, GA, Garrett Alexander Jones (Kayla Glover), Albany, GA, Ryan Anthony Thomas Spencer (Madeline) of Aimes, IA, one granddaughter, Meagan Sierra Ford, Riverdale, GA; five great
grandchildren: Emilee Rose, Nora Giselle and Aubrey Jaelyn (Garrett), Nyla Leiana (Darron) and Shepherd Theo (Ryan). He leaves four sisters, Louise McCoy, Bennie Pearl Sapp, Anne West (Johnny), Thelma
Gilbert, one brother, McArthur Jones and two sistersin-law, Trudie Jones and Iris Jones. He leaves a dedicated caretaker, Monique Smith. He also leaves a loving and devoted companion, Ms. Rosa McCray, along with a number of cousins, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.
