A Time to Be Born: The season of life for Johnnie Mae Thomas began in Grady County, Georgia on April 13, 1940. She was the beloved daughter of the late Rosa Lee Moore and the late Johnny Lee Williams.
A Time to Learn: During the early years of her life, she attended the public schools of Grady County where she actively participated in numerous organizations, activities and events.
A Time to Serve: At a very early age, Johnnie Mae professed her faith and belief in Christ, was baptized, and remained a faithful servant throughout life's journey.
A Time to Love: On November 7, 1959, she was united in holy matrimony to the love of her life, Spurgeon Thomas, Jr. Their union endured through the years as they honored their vows to love and cherish each other. Domestic at heart, Johnnie Mae was unwavering in her dedication to foster a home filled with love, joy, and peace.
A Time to Work: Johnnie Mae was a very persistent, conscientious individual who firmly believed in working hard for what you want and always being willing to do the right thing. She was employed at Lee County Textile Manufacturing for 25 years, working tirelessly until the company closed. She later joined the ranks of employees at Target of Albany where worked diligently to ensure that no task was left undone. After rendering 15 years of loyal service, she retired to a life of leisure and spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren who held the key to her heart.
A Time to Embrace: Often referred to as the "Grand Diva of Fashion and Bingo Queen," Johnnie Mae was also an excellent cook. Her home was a revolving door for family and friends and she delighted in preparing delicious, downhome soul food for them to enjoy. She dearly loved her family and was always on call to lend a helping hand. Her friendliness and kindness to all people and her devotion and love for family and friends will greatly be missed by everyone who had the privilege of being a part of her life.
A Time to Rest : On Thursday, January 7, 2021, Johnnie Mae faced the sunset of her earthly season and transitioned to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Frank and Florence Williams; and her great grandson, De'Narrius Johnson.
A Time to Cherish: Loving memories will forever be cherished by her devoted husband, Spurgeon Thomas, Jr. of Albany, GA; daughters, Vevelyn (Michael) George of Pelham, GA, and Erma Campbell, Johnnie Marie (Melvin) James, Valerie (Charles) Walters, and Vernita (James) Staton all of Albany, GA; siblings, Alma McCray of Moultrie, GA, Annie Doris Lovejoy of Meigs, GA, Mae Dean Williams of Rochester, NY, and Samantha Ellison, Darlene Ellison, and Jonathan Ellison all of Sanford, FL; twelve grandchildren (four who were raised as her own); numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, cousins, and friends .
