IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnny
Johnson
February 1, 1954 – August 11, 2023
Johnny Johnson was born in Albany, Georgia on February 1, 1954.
He was the third of ten children in the union of the late Willie B. and Velma Johnson.
He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Dougherty County School System, including Monroe High School.
Ready to serve his country after high school, Johnny enlisted in the United States Army where he served with distinction. During his
enlistment, he worked as a Motor Transport Operator and was awarded the National Defense Service Medal and the Sharpshooter Rifle (M16) Expert Grendade Badge. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he received an honorable discharge.
Johnny was a very talented individual whose love for music, especially the guitar, followed him throughout his life. Having been trained to
play the 12-string guitar, he ultimately rose to prominence as one of the most talented guitarist with incredible musical string skills. Over
the years, he enjoyed a longstanding career with multiple bands, including the Trendales, Soul Inspiration, Red Lighters, and Eastside Revolution. His unique style and techniques garnered him the nickname "Guitar Johnny".
A very loving and kind man, Johnny was full of life, and had a contagiously bright smile. He believed strongly in family ties and enjoyed spending time with them. Throughout his life, he fostered many lasting relationships and life-time friendships.
Johnny's faith in God never wavered—even through his roughest times. On Friday, August 11, 2023, he peacefully transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Willie M. Johnson, Rosie Lee Thomas, and Dean W. McCray; and his step-son, Mark Greene.
