Obituary

Johnny Oliver, Sr. was born in Colquitt, Georgia on October 4, 1946.  He was the beloved son of the late Fenison Oliver, Sr. and the late Rutha Mae Oliver.

After moving to Albany, Georgia with his family, he attended and graduated from Monroe High School.  While at Monroe, he was active in numerous school organizations, activities, and sporting events.

Throughout his childhood, Johnny was nurtured in the Word of God.  At a very early age, he professed his faith and belief in Christ; was baptized; and became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church.  Over the years, he was a faithful and dedicated member who devoted himself to his calling as a Deacon and a member of the Male Choir.  He later united with Greater Pine Chapel  Baptist Church and continued to avail himself in Christian service.  He was a faithful servant and lived a life that demonstrated his deep conviction and beliefs.

Early in life, he was united in holy matrimony to Anniece Williams.  Their union endured through the years and was blessed with five children.  He was a loving father and grandfather who was most attentive to the needs of his family.  Later in life, he was joined in marriage to the late Toni M. Oliver.  Deacon Oliver was a persistent, hardworking individual with high ambitions and an unstoppable attitude.  He began his career at Olan Craft Box Factory where he worked untiringly for numerous years until injuring his hand.  Fiercely determined not to allow the injury to end his work-life, he started "Oliver's Lawn Care" which he owned and operated for over 50 years.  His outstanding work ethics spoke for themselves and he earned the respect and friendship of many through his work.

Deacon Oliver was known for his smile and genuine love for his family and friends.  He had a kind heart, a generous spirit, always had time to be of service to others.  People throughout the community were blessed by his encouraging words and congenial spirit.  Often, he welcomed people into his life and treated them like family.  He will be missed by all who knew and loved him dearly.

On November 22, 2020, Deacon Oliver transitioned from this earthly life to be with the Lord.  In addition to his parents and his wife, he was predeceased by two siblings, Jenny Oliver Hunter and Murray Oliver.

Loving memories will forever remain with his children, Johnny (Remecia) Oliver, Jr., Patrick B. Smith, Jennifer D. Oliver, Alexander M. (Myesha) Oliver all of Tampa, FL, and Anesia R. Oliver, Quantavious Sims, and Zomonica Smith of Albany, GA; three siblings, Reverend Fenison Oliver, Jr. of Atlanta, GA, and Deacon Andrew Oliver and Karen Oliver both of Albany, GA; brother-in-law, Deacon Richard Hunter of Vero Beach, FL; aunts, Polly Cherry of Albany, GA and Louise McIntyre of Canton, OH; grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
