IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Johnny Lee
Wright
November 25, 1955 – April 18, 2022
Johnny Lee Wright was born in Newton, Georgia on November 25, 1955, to the late Jesse L. Torrence Wright and Elijah Wright.
He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Baker County School System.
He began his career in law enforcement at the Baker County Sheriff's Office. He later moved to Albany, Georgia and on August 25, 1982 became employed at the Dougherty County Sheriff's Department as a jailer. He transferred to the Warrants/Civil Division as a warrant deputy then was assigned to night patrol, teamed with the late Corporal Tommy Bruce. Sergeant Wright was promoted to Corporal on August 19, 1995, and transferred to the front office of the Sheriff 's Office. On December 6, 1999, he was promoted to Sergeant. During his forty -year career with the Sheriff's Office, Sergeant Wright worked in almost all areas of the Sheriff's Office. For the last several years, he was the face you saw and the voice you heard when you contacted the Sheriff 's Office during the afternoon hours. His professionalism, loyalty and work ethic have set the example for all to follow, and his dedication is to be emulated. Sergeant Wright had a servant's heart, a calm demeanor and treated everyone with respect.
Johnny was united in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Dorothy Polite. His love for his wife was unmatched—she was the sparkle in his eyes, the beat in his heart, and the air that he breathed. Together they created a home filled with love and strong family values for their two beautiful children. He was an awesome husband and father who loved his family with his whole heart.
A strong man of God, Johnny was a faithful member of Victory of Albany under the leadership and guidance of Pastor Eddie Adams. He served on the security team and worked willingly in other areas of the ministry when called upon. His faith was his guiding light and allowed him to be an example for family and friends.
On April 18, 2022, Johnny faced the sunset of his earthly life and joined his Savior in eternity. He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents; and three brothers, Elijah Wright Jr., Jesse J. Wright, and James Wright.
