Jordan Trent Mallory, Jr., son of the late Elnora and Clausell Mallory, was born July 6, 1943.
Growing up in Albany, Georgia, he was educated in the Dougherty County School System. In his early adult years, he joined the military where he was recipient of the Purple Heart for his selfless commitment to the Army and his platoon while serving in the Vietnam war. He attended Albany State University and later moved to Albany, New York, matriculating at Cornell University School of Labor Relations. He was a graduate of Albany Business College with a degree in Business Management.
Jordan was an entrepreneur, owning a variety of businesses and real estate properties designed to serve black communities in Albany, New York. He owned the South End Winery and Liquor Store and believed in strengthening communities by investing in them. He was an active member of the Prince Hall Masonic Temple; a member of the 369th Infantry Regiment Association, honoring the impact of African American soldiers, especially during WWII; member and financial supporter of the NAACP; and a member of the Albany Urban League where he chaired its committee on Urban Housing. He was a founding member and financial contributor to the Albany Sickle Committee fund drive for Sickle Cell Research.
He worked as a tax technician for NYS Department of Tax and Finance and also as a tax prepeparer before securing a position with the US Postal Service. He retired from the USPS after over 20 years of employment and was the first African American union representative in the region.
Jordan loved family, gardening, cooking and music. He was an intense family man who prided himself with helping others, promoting unity, and encouraging and instilling strong family values to the younger generations. He led by example through his words and actions. He was an excellent singer and part of the "Dixie Travelers" singing group as a teen. He was very active with his alumni class of Monroe High School where he served as treasurer. Jordan's warm welcoming nature made his home a comfortable place for family and friends to gather, fellowship, or just watch football. He enjoyed cooking and entertaining.
Jordan was baptized in 2000 at Kingsville Baptist Church in Cusseta, Georgia. On
January 14, 2021, Jordan passed away at the age of 77. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sons, Jermayne Mallory and Brian Leigh; six brothers; and his favorite aunt, Ma Redd.
He leaves to cherish his memory his spouse, Margaret Shingles; children, Jordan (Nick Jr.) Mallory, Teona Mallory, Shanika (Thomas) Eberhardt, and stepson, Drexel Shingles; grandchildren, Takiya Brooks, Courtlynd Mallory, and Kyan Stewart; siblings, Henry Mallory, Rev. E. J. Mallory, Sr., Alphonso (Isabelle) Mallory, Mack Mallory, Deloris Peterson, Nola (Frank) Mitchell, and Ora Woods; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
