Obituary

Joseph Johnson, son of the late Johnny Lee Johnson and Doretha James Ford, was born in Albany, Georgia on December 31, 1942.

He was educated in the Dougherty County School System and was active in numerous school activities and sporting events.

Joseph's love for God and the church began at a very early age. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, united with Union Missionary Baptist
Church, and served faithfully for numerous years. As he continued his walk with the Lord, he united with the St. Paul Baptist Church where he gave of himself freely wherever needed. In later years, he joined Greater Friendship Missionary Baptist Church of Oakfield, Georgia and remained steadfast in Christian stewardship.

In 1991, Joseph met the love of his life, Vera Wise Jackson, and they were joined in marriage on July 26, 1996. His love for his wife was unmatched—she was the sparkle in his eyes, the beat in his heart, and the air that he breathed. Together, they worked to provide a home filled with love and support for their children. His love and commitment to his family was the foundation of who he was.

Joseph wore many hats during his professional career. His early years of employment included Lykes Meat Processing Company where he labored untiringly until the company closed. A seasoned, skilled worker, Joseph continued his career working in various capacities with companies in the Albany area. In each job assignment, he took pride in his work and gave his very BEST.

Fondly known as "Meat" and "Iron Man" because of his physical statue and strength, Joseph embraced life with open arms. He was a devoted husband, loving father, unfailing brother, caring uncle, and loyal friend with a big heart and a kind and generous spirit. His life was full of adventure and great stories that he often shared while fishing or spending time with family and friends.

He will be deeply missed by all who shared his life and loved him dearly.

After leading a blessed a wonderful life, Joseph was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 19, 2021. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph Johnson, Jr. and Andre Johnson; his granddaughter, Contessa Roberts; and two siblings, Lucinda B. Hill and Frank Ford.
