Ms. Josephine Lyons Laster Childs, affectionately known as "Jo," was born in Leary, Georgia on May 28, 1951, to the late Ms. Queenie Bell Thrower and the late Mr. Johnny Laster.

Josephine completed her schooling in the Dougherty County School System. She confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior and joined Eureka Missionary Baptist Church where she served faithfully under the leadership of Pastor/Dr. Bill Edge, Sr. until her health declined.

Josephine was employed by Equity Group for many years and retired in 2005. She loved cooking, reading, watching television and completing word search puzzles.

Josephine departed this life peacefully on January 22, 2021, surrounded by family. She was preceded in death by her sister, Mamie R. Collins and her brothers, Bobby R. Lyons, Alvin Thrower, Willie T. Laster, and Charlie Laster.

Josephine leaves to cherish her memories her sons, Vincent L. Childs and Nakita C. Childs both of Albany, GA; sisters Joyce L. Paul of     Albany GA, Beverly Thrower of Atlanta, GA, Georgia Lee Laster-Wheeler of Albany, GA, Sallie Laster Oliver-Perry of Leary, GA, Pearlie Laster-Carter of Leary, GA, Johnnie Mae (John, Jr.) Laster-Carter of Kingwood, TX, Clara (John H.) Laster-Crawford of Columbus, GA; brothers Melvin G. Thrower of Albany, GA, James R. Laster of Albany, GA and Bennie Laster (Theresa) of Elk Grove, CA; granddaughter Audrianna (Christopher, Sr.) Walters of Albany, GA; seven great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
