Obituary

Josie Ann Turner Hayes was born in Moultrie, Georgia on November 1, 1955. She was the daughter of the late Lucious and Queenette Sheffield Addison.

She attended the public schools of Colquitt County and participated in various school functions and activities.

At a very early age, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior. She was baptized and united with the Sinnerfriend Baptist Church in Hartsfield, Georgia.

In 1971, she was united in holy matrimony to Charlie Ed Turner, Jr.; and with this union, five children were born. In later years, she married Vanester (Van) Hayes who preceded her in death. Josie was a persistent, hardworking wife and mother who dedicated much of her time and energy to caring for the needs of her family. Over the years, she skillfully balanced her life as a homemaker with her employment as a domestic worker. No matter what the task, she took great pride in her work.

Josie had a wonderfully upbeat and cheerful attitude toward life. She was profoundly devoted to her family and truly cherished the time spent with them. One of the things she enjoyed most in life was cooking. Oftentimes, she was found creating soulful meals for her family and friends . In her free time, she also enjoyed sewing, growing flowers, and dancing. She will long be remembered as a good natured, outgoing lady with a big heart.

On Friday, September 1, 2017, Josie departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest. She was preceded in death by two children, Calmyra Parks and Lionell Turner; and six siblings, twin sister Janice Addison, Pearline Jones, Cecil Jones, Willie James Sheffield, Ardis Jones, and Oscar Jones.

Loving memories will be forever cherished by her children, Charles (Ann) Addison, Amanda (Jerome) Turner, and Jacqueline (Lance) Turner of Albany, GA; six step-children, Latosha Winchester and Sharlene Whaley of Albany, GA, Sonia Hayes and Carlos Hayes of Atlanta, GA; and Terry Hayes and Quinton Hayes of Palm Beach, FL; one brother, Leroy Jones of Moultrie, GA; 12 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Carolyn Turner of Albany, GA; a devoted and caring caregiver, Alfreda Mackroy; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
