Joyce Lauretta Reddick, daughter of the late Lawrence Lee Reddick and Johnnie Mae Engram Reddick, was born on December 3, 1953, in Albany, Georgia.
From birth, she was given the nickname "Pennie" by her mother because she was golden brown like the coin. Joyce was the oldest of three siblings.
She was educated in the public schools of Dougherty County, graduating from Monroe Comprehensive High School in 1971. Joyce was an extremely gifted young woman who took advantage of every opportunity to expand her musical talents and abilities. She continued her quest for knowledge at Elizabeth City State University and later earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in music from Albany State University. While at ASU, she became a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority where she proudly wore her crimson and crème which served as a symbol of courage and purity for her.
As a youth, Joyce accepted Christ as her Savior. She dearly loved the Lord and was an active member of Mount Zion Baptist Church Throughout life, she remained steadfast and prayerful—always giving God the glory and praise for the blessings in her life.
Joyce was a loving mother who devoted much her life to caring for her daughter Joycelyn and adoptive daughter LaToya. She was employed as a
music teacher with the Dougherty County School System for numerous years and was lauded as a dedicated and committed teacher who instilled a lifelong love for music in her students.
Although faced with significant health challenges since the early 1990s, Joyce persevered courageously and never gave up. Her courage and strength throughout her stay at the Fort Valley Senior Home Care facility and later with her adoptive daughter helped everyone realize that every day was a blessing and an opportunity to create lasting memories.
On December 10, 2021, Joyce faced the sunset of her life as she quietly transitioned to eternal peace and rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Jocelyn LaShaun Reddick; and her siblings, Lois Reddick and Lawrence Lee Reddick, Jr.
Cherished memories will forever remain with her loving great aunt, Charlene Baldwin; adoptive daughter, LaToya Reddick, nieces and nephews, Jennifer Seay, Montreal Reddick, Miesha Jones, Allexuss Ransom, Jason Harris, Justin R. Harris, and Marcus Harris; special cousins, Kathy Wiggins, Karl Wiggins, Kimberly Anderson, and Kelcy Anderson; and a host of cousins, extended family, and friends.
