Obituary

Katheryn Harris was born in Morgan, Georgia on March 19, 1938. She was the beloved daughter of the late Willie and Lucy Boyd.

During her early years, she attended the public schools of Dougherty County.

Very early in life, Katheryn accepted Christ as her personal Savior and began her journey with the Lord at New Jerusalem Baptist Church where she was a faithful and dedicated member. For many years, she served unwaveringly as Mother of the Church until her health declined. Mother Harris was strong in her faith, in character, and in wisdom. She dearly loved the Lord and her church family.

On June 3, 1962, she was united in holy matrimony to Robert Lewis Harris. This union was blessed with a loving family which they nurtured with patience, discipline, humility, and love. She was a persistent, hardworking individual who ate not the bread of idleness. For numerous years, she skillfully balanced her responsibilities as a homemaker with her employment as a housekeeper; and later as a Dietician at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital.

Mother Harris was a loving and caring person who never met a stranger and was known for helping anyone she came in contact with. She was an exceptional cook who enjoyed preparing delicious meals for her family and friends. Her doors were always open and her table was always spread. Oftentimes, she could be found outdoors enjoying the beauty of the earth and offering words of encouragement to those around her.

Blessed beyond measure, Mother Harris lived to see generations of her off-springs whom she left a legacy of love humility, generosity, and godliness. She was the stronghold and pillar of her entire family—the "thread" that held them together. Her daily presence, guidance, and support will greatly be missed.

On Saturday, April 7, 2018, Mother Harris answered the Master's call to come home and she transitioned to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Annie Mae Bell, Annie Boyd, and Sylvia Brazil.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her devoted husband, Robert Harris; eight children, Frances Green, Linda Harris, Esther Harris, Rhonda Harris, Tammy Harris, Barbara Harris, Robert Harris, Jr., and Irma Harris; 20 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
