IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leathia Mae
Baskin
February 24, 1948 – March 5, 2019
Leathia Mae Baskin was born in Omar, West Virginia on February 24, 1948. She was the third child of six siblings born to the late Jessie and Sally Caruthers.
During the early years of her life, she received her formal education in the Dupont City School District, including Dupont High School in West Virginia.
Leathia was a proud and devoted mother who skillfully balanced her duties as a homemaker with her employment as a cashier with numerous commercial businesses. She was a very conscientious, persistent individual; gave her best at whatever she did; and took pride in a job well done. Leathia believed strongly in working hard for what you want, being willing to do the right thing, and making sure that no task was left undone. She loved her children unconditionally and taught them to persevere and stick together through the trials and triumphs of life. Charles and Michelle most assuredly held the "key to her heart."
Oftentimes, Leathia could be found basking in the beauty of the earth; enjoying the basics of life; and spending time with family and friends who were so dear to her. She will be most remembered for her ability to make connections with people from all walks of life, her big heart, and her caring spirit.
On Tuesday, March 5, 2019 , Leathia transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister/best friend, Flora Lewis, three additional siblings, JoAnn Caruthers, Roy Lee Caruthers, and Walter Caruthers; an aunt, Barbara Jean Whitestone; and a nephew, Gradis Lewis III.
Loving memories will forever be cherished by her children, Charles (Cynthia) Baskin of Maple Shade, NJ and Michelle Taylor of St. Louis, MO; brother, Robert Hairston of Charleston, WV; grandchildren, Dontrell (Alexandra) Taylor of Pendleton, CA, Alexis Taylor of St. Louis, MO, Jasmine Taylor of Carrollton, GA, and Walter Bailey and Ricky Bailey of Mapleshade, NJ; a loving niece and namesake, Lethia (Andre)Owens of O'Fallon, MO; nephew, Rodney Lewis of Albany, GA; brother-in-law, Gradis Lewis, Jr. of Albany, GA; nieces, LaTasha (Brinson) Caruthers of Albany, GA and Aramis (Cameron) Bryant of St. Louis, MO; great-great nieces and nephews; aunt, Ella Mae (Raymond) Smith of Charleston, WV; goddaughter, Cyncirae Atkins of Greensboro, NC; and a friend and father of her children.
