Obituary

Leroy Joseph Cargyle was born in Lake Harbor, Florida on September 28, 1952.  He was the third of seven children in the union of  the late Joe and Ethel Cargyle.

He received his early childhood and secondary education in the Palm Beach County School System, including Lake Shore High School. Throughout school, Leroy was an exceptionally inquisitive young man who gained valuable technical and industrial skills; garnered much from his educational experiences; and actively engaged in numerous student-centered activities.  Having acquired a deep passion for truck driving, he enrolled in a truck driving program and completed the requirements to earn his Commercial Drive's License (CDL).

Leroy met and married the love of his life, Margaret Elizabeth Moore.  Together, they  built a family and a home that was a haven of love, respect, and boundless joy.  Their union was blessed not only with children, but grandchildren and great grandchildren who held the keys to his heart.  His role as a family man was one that he cherished above all others and he spared no effort in providing for them.

Leroy's professional journey in the transportation industry was as vast as it was impactful.  As a self-employed truck driver, he traveled throughout the United States delivering goods and products for various trucking companies. Upon relocating to Albany in 2004, Leroy joined the ranks of employees at Jim Boyd trucking company where he continued his more than 50-year career that was defined by high expectations and unquestionable integrity.  He took great pride in his driving skills and as a result, was recognized for driving thousands of miles accident free.  Faced with severe health challenges in 2020, Leroy  parked his rig, shut the engine down, and retired from driving.

Affectionately called "Duckman" by family and friends, Leroy had a spirit of sunshine that could be felt by everyone around him.  He was loving, outgoing, generous, witty, and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all his life experiences.  He dearly loved the Lord and served faithfully at New Jerusalem Baptist Church—always giving God the glory and praise.  Anyone who knew him also knew that he a passion for cooking and grilling which, ultimately, earned him the coveted title of "grill master."  He will be deeply missed.

On, July 26, 2024, Leroy transitioned from this earthly life. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three siblings, Hazel Cargyle, Ruby Nell-Shell, and Claude Marion.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by his beloved wife, Margaret Cargyle; his children, Sharon (Nathaniel) Florida, Hattie (Demetrius) Jones, Tiffany Green, and Kelvin (Dallisa) Green; siblings, Joseph Cargyle, Edgar Cargyle, and Eddie James Ford; special nephew and nieces, Gregory (Michelle) Green, Shamoria Pace, and Siobhan Pace; close friends, Kenny, Isaiah, and Marquis; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
