Obituary

Levi Breedlove, Jr. was born on April 3, 1927 to the late Levi Breedlove, Sr. and Dora Bell Anthony Breedlove in Terrell County Georgia.  Levi was the eldest of four siblings: Hilliard, Robert, James and a sister who died as an infant.  As young children the Breedlove's moved to Hartford, Connecticut to live with the patriarch, Wesley Breedlove.  Shortly after their arrival, Levi, Sr. became seriously ill and passed away.  Dora Bell and her boys moved back to Terrell County, Georgia and lived with her parents, Luther and Alice Anthony.  A few years after moving back, Dora Bell passed away leaving her four boys to be raised by her parents.  By the time Levi, Jr. was seven years old he had lost both of his parents.

Levi attended Almena school located in Lee County, Georgia.  It was there he met his future bride, Rutha Lee Thomas in elementary school.  As years came and went, Levi and Ruth begin to "court" and by the time Levi was seventeen, he asked for Ruth to marry him.  Levi joined "Big Kiokee" in 1944 and married Ruth on November 18 th 1944.  Levi immediately became an active member in the church.  Over the years he served on the usher board, superintendent of Sunday School, Deacon, instructor for the Baptist Training Union to name a few.  He also became the president to many of these auxiliaries. At one point, he was noted to have the largest Sunday School participation in the City of Albany.

As Levi grew in the church so did his speaking engagements.  He would be asked to speak in and throughout Albany, Georgia.  In 1967, Levi was "called" into the ministry and preached his trial sermon on September 29, 1967.  Soon after his trial sermon Levi pastored five   churches for eight years:  2 nd Mount Moriah Baptist Church (Putney, Georgia), Phillip Grove Baptist Church (Lee County), Mercy Grove Baptist Church (East Albany, Georgia), Macedonia Baptist Church (Leary, Georgia), and Old Piney Grove (Lee County, Georgia).

In 1976, Levi was called to the Third Kiokee Missionary Baptist Church to serve as pastor.  He was back home.  Rev. Breedlove served unconditionally and faithfully for thirty-six years.  Under his leadership, the church grew spiritually, physically, in membership and financially.  The church acquired property next door and expanded the Sunday School classroom accommodation three fold, a nursery and fellowship hall.  A gym was built for recreation and housed the Third Kiokee Daycare Center, mobile transportation was purchased to transport those who had no other transportation to church and for seniors; services were broadcast on the radio every Sunday and the number of ministries that were created to keep members active were phenomenal!  The music ministry expanded with the addition of drums, Hammond organ, mixing boards, video equipment and sound systems.

In 1994, the year of the flood, Reverend Breedlove shepherded his flock through recovery and rebuild.  Notwithstanding his own personal loss, Third Kiokee was back on its solid foundation in no time.

During his time as pastor at 3 rd Kiokee, Reverend Breedlove served in many capacities in other organizations. He served as the Moderator of the Perkins and Bunts District Association, Moderator of the Kiokee Association and Moderator of the Blue Springs Association.  He served as  President of the Albany Ministerial Alliance and the March of Dimes coordinator for the City of Albany.  For over forty years, he was a member of the Georgia Missionary Baptist Convention and the National Baptist Convention, Inc.  Reverend Breedlove retired and preached his last sermon as pastor of Third Kiokee the first Sunday in December 2012 and was named Pastor Emeritus of Third Kiokee Baptist Church in February 2013.

After such a long legacy of service, Reverend Breedlove leaves to cherish his memory, his bride for over 74 years, Rutha Lee Thomas Breedlove, the five children they raised together: Charles (Carolyn) Albany, GA, Lorane Breedlove Guthrie, Lithonia, GA, Levi III (Ottive) Alpharetta, GA, Eva Breedlove Burns (Greg, Sr.) Augusta, GA and Cassondra M. Breedlove, McDonough, GA.  Seven grandchildren to include:  Kenya Buskey (Lynday) Morrow, GA, Marcus Breedlove Buffalo, NY, Moise Breedlove, Kenneke, Washington, Dr. D'Andrea Jackson (Douglas) Augusta, GA, Avis Bowman, Augusta, GA, Gregory (Taleetha) Burns, Jr. Atlanta, GA; and 10 Great Grandchildren:  Adam Buskey, Donovan Jackson, Drew Jackson, Tanner Bowman, Thomas Bowman III, Tyanna Breedlove, Andre' Breedlove, Kenya Breedlove, Taylen Burns and Greyson Burns and a host of other relatives.
