Mr. Lewis Covin, known as "Joe" was born on April 30, 1944 in Smithville, Georgia to the late Sallie Covin-Waiters and Julius C. Henderson. He was educated in the Lee County School System, before joining the United States Armed Forces (Army) at the age of 21. He proudly served his country for 12 years, spending 3 of those years in combat in Vietnam.
"Joe" diligently labored throughout his years working for various companies at different times throughout his life including, the Southern Railway System, Proctor and Gamble, Greyhound and Bill Chambers Auto Sales, just to name a few. He was well known throughout his years, and left lasting impressions, upon those he encountered. "To know him was to Love him. "
His favorite scripture, which he carried in his heart, comes from Romans 8:28 "And we know that all things work together for the good of those who love God, to them who are called according to his purpose". With this scripture he encouraged many to stay focused and to keep their eyes on the prize because "All things work together for those who love God".
On Tuesday, January 1, 2019, God looked out on the battlefield and saw a soldier who had diligently labored and called him home for his reward. He was preceded in death by his parents: Sallie Covin-Waiters and Julius C. Henderson; Step Father, Nathaniel Waiters; a loving & devoted Grandmother, Sally Mae Covin; two Aunts, Lizzie Moreland and Hattie Mae Thomas; two Uncles Willie Covin and Leroy Edwards along with many other loved ones.
The memories of his Joyous & Ambitious life will be cherished by his three daughters, Joyce Ingram, Nichelle (Anthony) Stevens, Yamonika (Antonio) Allen; four sons, Michael (Dawn) Covin, Agee (Jessica) Gabriel, Jolan Covin and Darion Thomas; two sisters, Andrea (Jackie) Beach and Gladys Waiters; sixteen grandchildren, two great grandchildren; a special niece and nephew, Sharon Alexis and Jackie Beach Jr. and a number of cousins, relatives and friends.
