Obituary

Linda Jean Hunter-Meeks was born to the late Marcia B. Hunter-Marshall and the late Lennis Hunter, Sr. on December 27, 1966, at the Grady County General Hospital in Cairo, GA. She was the eldest of their five living children, being preceded in death by their first born. She confessed Christ at an early age, joining Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church in Albany, GA. It was at Mt. Calvary where she served the Lord with her voice by singing in the junior choir.

She attended and graduated from St. Teresa Catholic School in 1981 and attended and completed four years at Westover High School with the graduating class of 1985. She attended Albany State University before enlisting into the United States Army in 1988. She served her country for five years and seven months. She proudly served in Desert Storm, making a sacrifice to leave her young son, Michael, in the care of her mother, Marcia B. Hunter- Marshall, during her time of service.

While in the military, she met the love of her life, Terry Dewayne Meeks, whom she married November 16, 1990. Prior to deploying to Desert Storm, they were stationed at Ft. Knox, KY and spent their honeymoon in the nearby city of Louisville. To this union Lashia Terrae was born on July 10, 1992.

During Dewayne's tour at Ft. Benning, GA she continued her education at Columbus Technical College earning four Associate Degrees and two Technical Certificates in General Information Technology and Computer Networking, graduating May 2008. It was during this tour that she and her family joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Albany GA.

Linda, Dewayne, Mike and Lashia continued as a military family traveling throughout the United States and abroad for many years until returning and retiring in Georgia in 2014.

She was called to eternal rest on February 22, 2019. She was surrounded by her family and in the arms of her husband Dewayne.  She will be greatly missed. Being preceded in death by both her parents and a sister, she leaves her legacy to her loving and devoted husband Terry Dewayne Meeks, loving son, Michael-Dewayne Meeks (Tarnesia), her loving Daughter Lashia Meeks, and Grandson, Jaylen Madden; siblings Lennis (Bud) Hunter, Jr., Vincent Hunter (Jacqueline), Glenda Marie Hunter-Hill (Omeme) and Key Lambert Hunter and a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
