Obituary

The season of life for Linda Loretha Raines began on April 10, 1949, in Albany, Georgia.  She was the third of three children born to the late K. B. Raines and Jenny Lou Body Raines.  At two years old after the death of her mother, Linda's uncle and aunt, Robert and Lillie Bell Raines, eagerly provided a loving home for her that was filled with strong Christian values.  She was also nurtured under the guiding hands of her aunt/godmother, the late Jessie Mae (Henry) Covin.

As she sprouted and grew, Linda attended the public schools of Dougherty County and graduated from Monroe High School in 1967.  Throughout school, she was a very compassionate young lady with a genuine desire to help others.   She had a beautiful inner strength that  made her a favorite among teachers, classmates, and close friends.

From a very early age, Linda was nourished with the Word of God.  As a youth, she accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior; was baptized and received the right hand of fellowship at William Springs Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ozell Blakely; and served faithfully in the choir and other capacities within the church for many years. Later in her adult life, she united with Union Missionary Baptist Church where she continued her Christian walk with the Lord until her demise.

Domestic at heart, Linda was a meticulous homemaker whose hands were never idle.  She firmly believed in hard work and giving her best no matter what the task.  For more than 30 years, she untiringly poured herself into diverse employment experiences, including Dixie Sandwich Shop, Merry Acres Hotel, and the Courtyard by Marriot.  Her work was marked by unquestionable integrity and lofty expectations.  She was a loyal, conscientious employee who rendered outstanding and unparalleled service.

Quiet and easy yet firm and intentional, Linda garnered much from her life experiences.  She was an     exceptional  mother and grandmother who remembered every special occasion, birthday, and holiday with a special treat; loved the time spent with family and friends; and treasured immensely the family gatherings, outings, and family trips.  She was deeply devoted to her family with a steadfast and caring love—especially her grandchildren who held the lock and key to her heart.  She leaves an enduring legacy of love, kindness, and dedication that she shared with family and friends who will always remember and cherish her life's journey.

The season of Linda's earthly life ended as she heeded the call of God to transition from labor to reward on Wednesday, October 19, 2022 at her home. In addition to her parents, uncle and aunts, she was predeceased by her twin sisters, Mary and Martha Raines.

Loving memories will forever remain in the hearts of her children, Eric (Yvonne) Raines and Erica (Billy) Potts; granddaughters, Baleigh Potts and Erielle Potts; god-sister and brother, Sallie R. (James) Odom and Johnny B. (Geraldine) Hudley; loving close cousins, Gertrude Washington, Delacey Green, Thomas Lee Washington, Dorothy Forrest, Scottie Edward Green, Daphne Odom Brooks, Derrick Odom, Sr., Sandra Washington, Ricky Washington, Deron Hudley, Alexander Steve Westbrook, Robbin Green, Velerie (Curtis) Bridges, Curtis Raines, Jessie James Body, and Ruthell Alsobrooks; a special friend and neighbor, Simon (David) Rivers; and a host of other relatives, extended family, and friends.
