IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lorenzo Donell
Hampton
January 9, 1955 – March 16, 2024
A Time to Be Born: Lorenzo Donell Hampton was born in Daytona Beach, Florida on January 9, 1955. He was the loving son of Dorothy Hampton Hill and the late Earnest Hill, Sr.
A Time to Learn: He attended Rock Island Elementary School Everglades Middle School, and Dillard High School in Broward County. Throughout his school years, Lorenzo garnered much from his educational experiences. Ready to serve his country at the age of 18, he enlisted in the United States Army. Shortly thereafter, he was honorably discharged due to medical reasons.
A Time to Grow in Christ: Early in life, Lorenzo accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior, vowing to live a life dedicated to His service. From that time forward, he gave his all to the glory of God.
A Time to Work: A very determined, conscientious, and persistent individual, Lorenzo was no stranger to hard work. He was employed with the City of Albany where he poured himself untiringly into his work for over 28 years until his retirement.
A Time to Love: For over 45 years, Lorenzo and Geraldine Sumbry shared an unshakeable bond; and in 1998, they were united in holy matrimony. His love for his wife was unmatched and he reassured her daily that everything he planned in life was for her—the love of his life. As a father, he made sure his kids knew unquestionably how much he loved them; and taught them the importance of hard work, independence, and integrity. One of his fatherly quotes was, "Life is too short. If there's something you want...go get it. If there's somewhere you want to go...Go!" Yes, Lorenzo was truly a noble family man.
A Time to Rest: On March 16, 2024, Lorenzo transitioned from this earthly life. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by three brothers, Benny Reaves, Willie Reaves, and Dave Whiters.
A Time to Cherish: Precious memories will forever be cherished by his wife, Geraldine Sumbry Hampton of Albany, GA; his mother, Dorothy H. Hill of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; children, Tanzineka Hampton (Demarcus Lunsford), Monquavious Hampton, Lorenzo (Breauna) Hampton, Brandon Shands, Latonya Favors, and Shaquana Scott; godchildren, Toni and Wesley Higdon; siblings, Troy Darrisaw, Sr., Ulices Reaves, Earnest Hill, Jr., Rosa Reaves, and Pearl Williams; brothers and sisters-in-law, Meshia (Torrence) Lawrence, Valerie (Donald) Mainer, Keesha King, Melvin (Angela) Sumbry, Chester (Sharon) Sumby, and Eddie (Mary Sumbry; 12 grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends.
