Obituary

Loretta Gwendolyn Green was born November 29, 1934, in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was the beloved daughter of the late John Stocks, Sr. and the late Alice Stocks.

She is a graduate of the Atlanta Georgia Educational System.  In her freshman year at Morris Brown College, Loretta was elected to be the Kappa Alpha Psi Queen where she reigned on the homecoming float representing the best of Kappa Alpha Psi Inc, Morris Brown Undergraduate Chapter.  She received her Bachelor's degree from Albany State College in the field of Education.  Loretta also received her Master's  degree in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Library      Science.  Even though she was a trained librarian, she elected to go back to the classroom and continued to teach third grade because she loved the children so much and students loved her in return.

Loretta was the first African American in the State of Georgia to receive a full Regents scholarship that paid for all her tuition throughout undergraduate and graduate school.  She was an honor graduate for both degrees.

She started her working career in her early middle school years doing hotel hospitality and textile upholstery, this is how she saved money for college and her clothing to help her four sisters and one brother.

In 1954, Loretta married Dr. Edwin Alfred Green, Sr. of Atlanta, GA.  The off-springs of this marriage were Eric Andros, Pamela Sharron and Edwin Alfred Jr.  They became the grandparents of Erica Green, Tessica Green, Joseph Williams, Daniel Williams, and Madison Green.

Loretta was baptized in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit at an early age in Atlanta, Georgia.  She was a devoted member of Mount Zion Baptist Church ever since 1966.  She participated in many church organizations in her tenure at Mount Zion Baptist Church.

She was inducted into the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. in the 1970s and has supported the chapter ever since.  Loretta was a life member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Delta Eta Omega Chapter of Albany, Georgia.

Survivors include her son, Dr. Eric A. Green (Tiffany) of Milwaukee, WI, a daughter, Mrs. Pamela Clark (Phillip) of Fort Worth, TX, and her son, Dr. Edward A. Green, Jr. (Colleen) of Brownwood, TX.  She also leaves her brother, John Stocks, Jr.; five grandchildren; and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.

Per her request, she lived her last three years of life under the care and residence of Dr. and Mrs. Eric A. Green with the guidance of the Lord Himself.  My instructions were explicit, to hold her hand until the Lord calls her name.  The Lord did a roll call at 11:15 a.m. on January 19, 2021, where I released my mother and the Lord took her to His mansion.
