Obituary

Loretta M. Jones Singleton, the third of five children, was born to the late Arthur and Millie Rene Daniel Jones on January 18, 1948l, in Albany, Georgia.  She was predeceased by her sister, Rebecca Jones Sanders.

She was educated in the Dougherty County School System, graduating from Monroe High School (Golden Tornadoes) in the class of 1965.   She received the Bachelor and Masters degrees in Christian Education from Bethany Divinity College and Seminary, and was currently pursuing a PhD in Christian Counseling.

At a very young age, Loretta united with the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where she was Baptized by the late Reverend H. C. Boyd.  Under his tutelage, she grew and matured in her spiritual walk  and served in numerous capacities and ministries, including Church Secretary and Assistant Youth Director.   In 2019, she joined Union Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Dr. John A. Severson and served faithfully until her health declined.

A very persistent and conscientious individual, Loretta's professional career included employment with M&M Mars/SnackMaster, Albany Turner Job Corps, and Albany Technical College.  Throughout her career, she never shied away from hard work and was an exceptional organizer. She was a multi-talented individual and will be missed by many businesses, organizations, and churches who utilized her talents in designing and printing souvenir booklets, programs, and flyers; and developing and maintaining websites.

Loretta also served as secretary of the Albany Civil Rights Institute Board of Directors and a member of the Boyd-Grant Planning Committee.  She was a visionary leader who always looked for ways to improve the quality of services.

On December 15, 2011, Loretta and Deacon Solomon Singleton were united in holy matrimony with Reverend H. C. Boyd officiating.

Her legacy of love and precious members are left to her devoted husband, Deacon Solomon Singleton; her brothers, Ponce Deleon (Nezzie) Daniels, David (Jan) Daniels, and Stanley Smith; aunts, Arrie Hampton, Dollie Porter, and Barbara Whitaker; brother-in-law,   Bobbie Singleton; niece and nephew, Deshell (Johnny) Green and Maxie Jones; great nieces and nephews, Eboni Green, Nikel Wilson, Contavius Wilson, Sariyah Anderson, and Channing Wilson; and a
