Lorraine Holmes Maddie was born February 27, 1958, in Ashburn, Georgia.  She was the fourth of six children born to the union of the late Deacon Hudson Holmes and the late Odell Walker Holmes.

She was a 1976 graduate of Russell High School in East Point, Georgia.   Lorraine continued her education and received an Associate degree in Business Administration from Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC). Her  passion for learning stirred her to further her education at Albany State University where she earned a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, and was later awarded a Master's degree while holding a full-time teaching position.

From a very young age, Lorraine was nurtured in the Word of God.  As a youth, she began her Christian journey and united with Bethlehem Baptist Church of Ashburn, Georgia.

Over the years, Lorraine was blessed to have had a profound professional career, beginning with her first position as a nutrition program assistant with the Turner County Extension Services.  She later embarked on her teaching career that spanned a period of 28 years.  As an elementary school teacher, she was relentless in guiding and inspiring students in the Turner County School System.  After relocating to Douglasville, Georgia in 2005, she continued cultivating young minds and talents at Beulah Elementary School as a Program Challenge teacher.  Her zeal and dedication extended beyond classroom instruction and spilled over into extracurricular activities, including Junior Beta Club sponsor and coordinator of the Douglas County Reading Bowl.  Mrs. Maddie's professional career was marked by the highest level of teaching excellence; and as a result, she received numerous accolades; and she was loved and respected by her peers, students, and parents.  Upon retirement, she was lauded as a "layer of strong foundations."

Lorraine was a very kind-hearted individual with an endless reservoir of love for her family.  She noticed the beauty in everything and the good in everyone.  Her glowing personality would lift your spirits and brighten your day.

On Monday, June 10, 2019, the Lord called Loraine home.  In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her daughter, Shavonne Katrice Hillmon; and her brother, Hudson Marvin Holmes.

Loving memories will forever be cherished by her devoted husband of 18 years, Roosevelt Maddie, Jr. and daughter, Julia (Samantha) Burks; nine children, Darrick (Lazevia) Maddie, Rodrick Maddie, Roosevelt D. Maddie, Narada Maddie, Debra (Andre) Maddie, Tonya (Andre) Brown, LaKeisha (Corey) Lindsey, Shakina Maddie, and Marie (Troy) Mayo; siblings, Julia (Wesley) Williams, Corene (Curtis) Love, Vanessa Holmes, Eloise (W. C.) Byrd, Robert (Yvonne) Holmes, and Dell (Betty) Maddie; sister-in-law, Angrette Holmes; and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
