Obituary

The sun rose and the world welcomed "Mookie" on August 14, 2000, a day the world became a little brighter!  He was chosen by God to enter into the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, July 12, 2021.  You may have called him "Mookie", "Lil One", "Bruh", "Luu" or "Luu Fasa"!  His born name was Lucius Pernell, Jr, the only child of Lucius Pernell, Sr.

Mookie was active in school sports, playing football and engaging in other school activities. He graduated from Monroe Comprehensive High School in 2019.

Throughout his short lifetime, he held an unwavering faith in God.  He will forever stand in our hearts as a reminder of strength, perseverance, love, and compassion.  He was an absolute warrior, enduring so much with so little complaints.  The seed of Christianity was planted in his heart at an early age where he worshipped with his church family at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church.  He sang in the choir and worked with the usher and the finance ministries.  He wore his favorite scripture tattooed on his arm Phil 4:13 for all to see and to share.

Mookie lived a warm life filled with joy and happiness even in the mist of his illness, living with the dreadful Lupus.  He loved listening to rap music, hanging with his friends and he absolutely loved watching cartoons-yep cartoons!!!

Precious memories will linger on and on for all who knew and loved him.  Even though his life was cut short, the impression he left on the lives of others will never be forgotten.

He left a void in the hearts of many.  His father Pernell who loved him liked none other and shared an unbreakable bond; his grandmother Patricia who raised him.  For she knew how to keep him sharp, well dressed and looking good!  There was no mountain too high, no valley to low, no river to wide, no nights too long that she wouldn't conquer for "her baby."  He was taught how to be a man by his uncles Octavius and Cedric. He was loved by his special friend Te'Oni Haskins.

Mookie will linger on in the hearts of so many loved ones.  He will be missed by his sisters, brothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, grandparents, and so many loving friends and family.  We pray that God shower blessings upon each of you now and forever.
