IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Maggie Lene
Wheeler Jones Carter
February 2, 1936 – June 1, 2025
Maggie Wheeler Jones Carter, was born in Meigs, Georgia on February 2, 1936. She was the beloved daughter of the late Eddie Wheeler and Lennie Redding.
Growing up in Leary, Georgia, she received her formal education in the Calhoun County School System. Throughout school, she was a lively, energetic student and a ray of sunshine to teachers, fellow classmates, and friends.
Very early in life, Maggie accepted Christ as her Savior and began her journey of Christian stewardship at Macedonia Baptist Church in Leary. Through the years, she served the Lord with her whole heart and devoted herself faithfully to His calling on her life. "Ms. Maggie and Mother Carter" as she was endearingly called, was a prayer warrior who was deeply rooted and grounded in the Lord. You could not know her without being inspired by her anointing from on High; her unfaltering devotion to her church; and her strong faith and convictions.
In 1949, Maggie married Jay Lee Jones who preceded her in death. Together, they created a home filled with love, joy, and strong family values. Later, in 1970, she was given a second chance at love and marriage. She was united in holy matrimony to John Carter and stood faithfully by his side until the Lord called him home. Being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother was one of the greatest joys of her life and she never wavered in her duties and responsibilities. For many years, she cared for the needs of her family through her employment with numerous companies in the local area, including Nut Tree Pecan Company. While there, she was a dedicated employee who always stayed the course to ensure that no task was ever left undone.
Blessed beyond measure, Ms. Maggie/Mother Carter lived a rich and rewarding life; reached the hallowed age of 89; and lived to see generations of her off-springs with whom she left a legacy of love, humility, generosity, and godliness. She had a servant's heart and felt most comfortable when helping others. The bonds of friendship that she developed throughout her life will forever be cherished.
On June 1, 2025, Mother Carter transitioned from this earthly life to eternal rest with the Lord. In addition to her parents and both husbands, she was preceded in death by three children, Victoria Jones, Paul Wheeler, and Connie Wheeler; and her siblings, Mary Farmer, Wayne Green, Bobby Green, and Willie Green.
Loving memories will forever remain with her children, Mary Bellmon, Jay Lee Jones, Jr., Linder Jones, Willie (Jacqueline) Jones, Issac Jones, Eddie Jones, Johnny Jones, Robert (Faye) Jones, Silas (Joanne) Wheeler, Jerry Carter, Peggie Carter, and Terry (Sherry) Carter; grandchildren, Maggie Jones, Sandra Bellmon, Yolanda Bellmon, Jennifer White, Ernest Thomas III, Valerie Thomas, Melisa Thomas, Randy Thomas, Angie Thomas Derrick Jones, Eric Jones, Gary Jones, Celeste Jones, Sedric Jones, Clara Keith, Monica Jones, Raheem Jones, Robert Jones, Jr., Silas Wheeler, Jr. Shaquille Wheeler, Shunwhiski Wheeler, Trayonna Carter, Stanley Carter, Montrail Carter, Robert Parker, and Sarena Parker; and a host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, cousins, and friends.
