Obituary

Mamie Lee Preston Bryant was born in Lee County, Georgia on April 13, 1927.  She was the beloved daughter of the late Martha and Ulysee Preston, Sr.  At a young age, she was given the nickname "Honey" by her paternal grandmother, Mama Lou.  The story is Mama Lou could not remember the name Mamie, but she could remember the name "Honey."  She stated that "honey" was sweeter than "sugar."

Honey was educated at Phillip Grove and Chokee schools.  Her Christian education and service began at the age of fifteen.  She initially   followed her mother and joined the Antioch Baptist Church.  Later in the nineteen fifties, Honey moved her membership to Phillip Grove Baptist Church.  There, she served faithfully as an Usher, Secretary of the Mission, and Mother of the Church until her demise.

Blessed with supreme culinary skills, Honey spent most of her professional life working in various restaurants, schools, and private homes in Leesburg and surrounding areas.  Through the years, she cooked with instinct and created flavors that would go "POW" in your mouth.  She was a true "master" of her trade.

In 1945, Honey was united in holy matrimony to the late Bob Bryant, Sr.  They shared a love and devotion to each other that endured for 48 years.  Honey was steadfast in her dedication to foster a Christian home filled with love and strong family values.

On April 1, 2022, Almighty God called his faithful servant home to rest.  In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Dora Bryant Washington and Spencer Bryant, Sr.; and six siblings, Dora Dodson, Mary Girven, Agnes Goggins, Cillia Milledge, Johnny Preston, Sr., and Julius Preston, Sr.

She leaves a legacy of love and godliness that will forever be cherished by her children, Bob Bryant, Jr. of Leesburg, GA, Walker Bryant of Springfield, MA, Bonnie (Patrick) Rowe of Hartford, CT, Florence Bryant of Leesburg, GA, Dexter Bryant of Leesburg, GA, Mamie Lassiter of Albany, GA, William Bryant of Hartford, CT, and Lawrence Bryant of Leesburg, GA; daughter-in-law, Leslie Bryant; son-in-law, Robert Washington; 19 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great—great grandchildren; five siblings, Dollie Milledge, Martha (Charles) Berryhill), Clara (Spencer) Jackson, Liz Preston, and Ulysee Preston, Jr.; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends; and a very devoted friend, Mrs. Geraldine Profit.
